PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Duane Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Raven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Duane Perry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 13 - 1, fighting out of New York, Thomas Raven!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Chris Edwards and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Raven.

Raven fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Perry, pushing him back against the cage.
Raven blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
A short left from Raven.
A left hand lands to the body for Perry.
Perry lands with a left to the head.
Raven stalling in the clinch but Perry improves position.
Raven pushes Perry back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Perry.
Perry tries a body shot but Raven blocks it.
Perry has a couple of punches blocked by Raven.
Perry misses with a hook from the clinch.

Perry turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Raven manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Raven working over Perry with some ground and pound. Perry looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Raven is looking to advance position but Perry won't allow it.
Raven lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Raven has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Raven throws a strike but Perry avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Raven stays in close to Perry's body and controls the position.
Perry preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Raven lands a couple of elbows.
Perry not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Raven in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Raven trying to control the position from guard on top but Perry is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Raven's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Raven wants to pass the guard but Perry is keeping the position.
Perry is trying to hold Raven in close to prevent damage but Raven has managed to pass into half guard.

Raven landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Perry trying to hold on to Raven's head to control him but Raven postures up.
Perry has hold of Raven's hands but Raven slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Perry is defending against the submission attempts here by Raven.
Raven lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Raven takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Nice strikes from Raven there.
Raven thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Perry's head.
Perry is trying to control but can't.
Raven winds up and cracks Perry with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Raven thows a huge punch but Perry dodges it nicely.
Raven is just content to waste time from the top position. Perry takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Raven working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Perry misses with an attempted mid kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Raven.
Raven lands with an overhand left.
Nice straight punches there by Raven. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Raven.
Perry avoids the head kick by Raven.
Perry steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Raven.
Raven misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Perry counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The fight stays on the outside here - Perry looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perry looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Thomas Raven seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Raven fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Thomas Raven seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Perry moves out of range as Raven throws a body kick.
Raven uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Perry.
Raven sizes up Perry with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Duane Perry is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Perry fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Raven looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Raven has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Perry throws a right and a left that Raven avoids nicely.

and Perry counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Raven takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Raven scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Perry is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Raven clobbers Perry with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

It looked like Perry was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Raven connects with a leg kick. Perry looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Perry throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Raven sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Raven connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Perry looks to clinch
and Raven counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Raven wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Perry uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Raven.
Raven keeps Perry at a distance using the push kick.

Raven shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Thomas Raven has got the better of the ground game so far.
Raven throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Thomas Raven showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Perry takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Raven looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Perry with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Raven to score with a decent uppercut.
Raven blocks a low kick nicely.
Raven avoids the body shot from Perry.
Raven throws a head kick that misses.
Perry moves out of range of the body kick from Raven.
Perry turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
A nice inside leg kick there by Raven. That's going to slow Perry down.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perry is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Raven.
Raven throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

and Raven counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Raven swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Perry wants to slow Raven down by chopping away at his legs.
Perry throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Raven misses with a kick to the body.
Raven blocks a head kick by Perry.
Raven tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Raven jabs Perry right on the nose. Perry blinks but takes it well.
Perry needs to keep his hands up - Raven had a free shot at his head there.

Raven decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Perry manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Raven keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Duane Perry has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Raven tries a body shot but Perry blocks it.

Raven pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Perry blocks a head kick by Raven.

A quick step to the side and Perry tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

As Raven backs away, Perry returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Raven has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Perry keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Perry appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Raven throws a leg kick but Perry sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Raven comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Raven needs to keep his hands up - Perry had a free shot at his head there.

Raven looks to land a right hand but Perry moved out of range.

Thomas Raven is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Raven is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Raven tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
