PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jordan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Soloman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Prozak - Under The Rain. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Soloman!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Soloman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Soloman is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jones slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Soloman tries to improve position but can't.
Jones misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Soloman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jones decides to stand back up.
Jones could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Soloman has his takedown stuffed

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Soloman can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jones pushes down on Soloman's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jones wants to control from the top but Soloman keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Soloman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.
Soloman distracts Jones with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Soloman keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jones's head.

Soloman looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jones with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jones is on top in guard.

and Soloman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Soloman from controlling successfully.
Jones lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Soloman!

Jones blocks Soloman's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Soloman is squirming around, avoiding Jones's attempts to control the action.
Soloman tries to reverse the position but Jones maintains control.

Jones swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Soloman is now in Jones's guard. A big mistake from Jones there, giving up the dominant position!
Jones is trying to control the position but Soloman postures up.
Jones is pulling down on Soloman's head. It's preventing any offense from Soloman, at least for the moment.
Soloman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Jones is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Soloman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
