PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gary Jordan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Otavio Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gary Jordan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Otavio Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Daniel Cesar and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jordan has closed the distance and engaged Johnson in a clinch.
Johnson is trying to pull guard but Jordan turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Jordan drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Jordan manages to break the clinch.
Jordan feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Johnsons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Johnson looks winded!

Jordan drops Johnson with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Johnson looks back up at him and smiles so Jordan waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Johnson is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jordan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Johnson changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Johnson is still on wobbly legs! Can Jordan finish him?
Gary Jordan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jordan misses with a takedown attempt - Johnson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Jordan jumps guard and drags Johnson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Johnson seems to have recovered his senses.
Jordan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Johnson is controlling him.

Jordan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jordan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Johnson defends it easily.
Jordan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Johnson is one step ahead there.

Jordan is really struggling to control Johnson but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jordan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Johnson slaps away a takedown attempt from Jordan, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Johnson wants to counter the offense by Jordan and move into the clinch position.

Jordan looks for the body kick but Johnson saw that one coming.
Both fighters circling a little - Jordan finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Jordan wants to clinch up but Johnson keeps it at a distance.

Jordan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Johnson shoots for a takedown but Jordan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jordan shoots in but Johnson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Johnson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gary Jordan dominated that round.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Johnson.
Jordan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Johnson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Johnson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Jordan finds it's way round the side to connect with Johnson's head.
Jordan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Johnson defends it nicely.
Johnson feints the counter takedown.
Johnson is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jordan clinches.

Johnson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Jordan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Jordan lands a good knee to the midsection. Johnson won't want to take too many of those.

Jordan decides to pull guard.

Johnson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Jordan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jordan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnson on the ground.
Jordan controls Johnson momentarily but Johnson frees himself.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jordan darts in and clinches Johnson up against the cage.

Jordan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jordan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Johnson can do to turn this around?
A lazy left from Jordan finds it's target.
Johnson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jordan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Jordan is pawing at Johnson, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Johnson's nose. Johnson is badly hurt! Jordan pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Johnson tries desperately to hold on but Jordan is relentless in his assault! As Johnson receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Jordan away and this one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gary Jordan!
