PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Proctor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wladyslaw Raginis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wladyslaw Raginis told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michael Proctor!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 15 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wladyslaw Raginis!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Aleksandr Martynov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Proctor takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Proctor uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.


It looks like Wladyslaw Raginis has been cut.
Proctor paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Raginis displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Proctor misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Raginis counters with a slapping leg kick.
Proctor scores with the left hand. Raginis knows he should have avoided that one.
Raginis displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Proctor throws out the jab.
Raginis looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Raginis misses with a double jab.
Raginis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Raginis wants to clinch
and Proctor counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Proctor avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Proctor throws a sloppy body shot
enabling Raginis to counter with a crisp jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Raginis lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Proctor has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Proctor and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

That has opened up Wladyslaw Raginis's cut even more.

Raginis decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Raginis working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Proctor is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Raginis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Proctor does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Proctor is trying to stand up here but Raginis is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Raginis not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Raginis lands strikes from half guard.
Raginis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Proctor's head.
Raginis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Proctor keeps working.
Raginis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Raginis seems to be working for a kimura but Proctor defends the submission attempt.

Raginis throws a strike but Proctor avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Raginis trying to control the position from guard on top but Proctor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Raginis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Raginis chips away with some ground and pound.
Raginis with a nice head shot there.
Proctor is trying to keep Raginis in close.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Raginis postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Raginis wants to control from the top but Proctor keeps moving.
Raginis postures up in Proctor's guard and throws a big left but Proctor blocks it.

Proctor looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Raginis stands up over Proctor, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Proctor fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Raginis manages to avoid it.
Proctor is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Raginis swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Proctor scores with a head kick. Raginis tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Raginis takes a swing at Proctor's ribcage but misses.
Proctor half committed to a counter leg kick.
Proctor punishes Raginis's body with a nice straight punch.
Raginis blocks a jab.
Raginis throws out a counter right but Proctor avoids it with no problem.
Proctor throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Raginis throws a body shot but no joy.
An attempted straight right counter from Proctor misses the target.
Raginis wants to clinch but Proctor slips to the side
letting Proctor counter with a right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Raginis scoring well with a low kick there.

Raginis dives in and scores a takedown into Proctor's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Raginis won't allow Proctor to sweep him here.
Raginis connects with a couple of short punches.

Raginis wants to control from the top but Proctor keeps moving.
Proctor will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Proctor wants to stand but Raginis is controlling the position.
Raginis is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Raginis is looking to work some ground and pound but Proctor has wrist control.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Raginis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Raginis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Raginis with a flurry of punches that miss.
Proctor wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Wladyslaw Raginis has got the better of the ground game so far.
Raginis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Proctor works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Proctor controls Raginis momentarily but Raginis frees himself.
Raginis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Proctor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Raginis postures up in Proctor's guard and throws a big left but Proctor blocks it.
Raginis controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Raginis throws a head kick that Proctor semi-blocks.


It looks like Michael Proctor has been cut.
Raginis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Proctor defends well and Raginis ends up having to push Proctor into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

letting Proctor counter with a right hand.

Raginis swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Proctor counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


The cut above Wladyslaw Raginis's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Proctor tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

and Proctor counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Proctor is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Raginis looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.


Wladyslaw Raginis's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Raginis closes the distance looking to clinch
and Proctor counters with a big right hand! Oh Raginis is in trouble here! Proctor follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Michael Proctor!
