Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Upin Ipin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Afghan Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Upin Ipin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Afghan Alves!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ipin feinted with a counter takedown.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Ipin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Alves.
Alves darts in looking for a takedown but Ipin gets double underhooks and turns Alves into the cage.
Upin Ipin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Afghan Alves.
Alves leaves Ipin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ipin blocks the body kick.
Ipin is looking to counter the offense by Alves and move into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ipin darts in looking for a takedown but Alves gets double underhooks and turns Ipin into the cage.
Alves throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ipin stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Alves shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ipin as he avoids it easily.

and Alves moves into the clinch.
Ipin controlling the action here for a moment.
Ipin content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Alves tries to break the clinch but Ipin is controlling the position.

Ipin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Alves shoots in for a takedown but Ipin shows good takedown defense.

Alves drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ipin can't do much from the bottom here.

You can see the frustration on Ipin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ipin is looking to regain half guard here but Alves keeps moving and retains side control.

Ipin is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Alves off and has taken his back!

Alves defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Ipin's arms.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Alves tries to roll but Ipin sticks to his back.
Alves really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ipin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Alves trying to control the hands but Ipin breaks the grip.
Ipin keeps control of the position as Alves tries to break free.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Ipin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
The fight stays on the outside here - Alves looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Alves looks for a takedown but Ipin sprawls well.
Ipin just misses with a punch to the body.
Ipin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alves can do to turn this around?

Alves lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Alves changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ipin tries to avoid it but Alves manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ipin to the ground. Ipin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Alves makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Ipin connects with a leg kick. Alves looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Ipin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Alves paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Alves stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Alves wants it to stay on the feet.
Alves looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Ipin fails in his attempt to clinch.
Ipin takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Alves scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Ipin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alves but Alves pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Alves is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Alves shoots in and drives through. Ipin sprawls well.

Alves tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ipin swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Alves fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Alves looks for the body kick but Ipin saw that one coming.
Alves shoots in for a takedown but Ipin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Ipin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alves but Alves pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Ipin takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Alves counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Ipin thinking.

Horrible takedown attempt by Alves or perhaps it was just good defense by Ipin, which made it look bad.
Ipin went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Afghan Alves showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Ipin is trying to drag Alves to the mat but Alves just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Ipin is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Alves pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Ipin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Alves smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Upin Ipin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

With the fighters up against the cage, Alves throws an elbow but misses.
Alves drops down looking for an ankle pick but Ipin pulls his leg out and moves away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Alves looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Alves pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ipin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Alves manages to avoid it.

Ipin clinches up with Alves and pushes him back against the cage.

Ipin pushes Alves back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Ipin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nice takedown defense from Ipin. No joy for Alves on that attempt.

and Alves makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Alves doesn't manage to clinch there - Ipin circles away.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Afghan Alves comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Alves has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
