Sabonis comes to the cage accompanied by James Brown - Superbad. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 46 - 30 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Arvydas Sabonis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cosmo Carboni!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sabonis clinches up against the cage.
Carboni is trying to break free.
Sabonis lands a body punch.
Sabonis working aggressively here.

Sabonis breaks the clinch.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Sabonis.
Sabonis tries a head kick but it misses.
Sabonis tries to clinch up.
A countering left hand to the body from Carboni misses.
Carboni scores with a nice right hand.
Sabonis throws a right hand that misses

and Carboni counters by clinching up.

Sabonis breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carboni throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sabonis throws a right hand that misses

and Carboni moves into the clinch.
Carboni is trying to force a seperation but Sabonis has the dominant position.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Sabonis.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sabonis is trying to trip Carboni. He has hold of a leg but Carboni is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Sabonis persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sabonis engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Carboni keeping moving, preventing Sabonis from controlling successfully.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Sabonis controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sabonis throws a head kick that half lands.
Sabonis throws a wild body kick that Carboni sees coming a mile off.
Carboni is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Carboni on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Carboni throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sabonis.
Sabonis misses with a looping left.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A looping hook to the body misses from Sabonis. Carboni does a little dance to reset his feet.
Arvydas Sabonis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carboni avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
A countering left hand to the body from Carboni misses.
Sabonis misses with a wild combination.
Sabonis on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Sabonis ducks under a wild hook from Carboni.
Carboni scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


It looks like Arvydas Sabonis has been cut.
Sabonis tries to clinch there but Carboni circles away.
Sabonis throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Carboni on the side of the head.
Carboni throws a big shot that misses.
Sabonis lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Carboni at a distance.
Sabonis misses with a right hand

and Carboni counters with a crisp right hand that drops Sabonis! Carboni lets Sabonis back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Sabonis is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Good leg kick by Sabonis there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Sabonis throws out a leg kick but Carboni moves out of range and Sabonis only half commits.
Carboni with the counter takedown but Sabonis avoids it easily.
Sabonis throws a head kick that misses.
Sabonis throws the left hand but Carboni avoids the punch easily.
Carboni looks to score with a jab to the body but Sabonis is just out of range.
Sabonis tries to clinch but Carboni moves out of range.

Carboni drops Sabonis with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Sabonis looks back up at him and smiles so Carboni waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Oh Sabonis is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sabonis throws a series of punches but Carboni avoids them all with ease.
Sabonis seems to have got his legs back now.
Carboni throws a hook but Sabonis avoids it easily.
Sabonis throws a right hand that misses
and Carboni counters with a powerful cross that connects right on the chin and the lights go out! A massive one punch knock out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Cosmo Carboni!
