PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Deontae Gordon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leeroy Lamalmar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lamalmar tries to clinch but Gordon is having none of it.
An inside leg kick lands from Lamalmar.
Lamalmar looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Gordon circles away from the clinch attempt.
Gordon went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Lamalmar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gordon paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Gordon takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Gordon shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Lamalmar manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Gordon stands up from Lamalmar's guard - Gordon perhaps looking for a knockout.
Gordon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gordon throws a head kick that misses.
Gordon blocks a head kick by Lamalmar.
Lamalmar tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gordon swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Gordon shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lamalmar's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gordon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gordon has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lamalmar is trying to control the position from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gordon sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lamalmar's guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gordon in particular looking to stall.
Gordon seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lamalmar for as long as he can get away with.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Lamalmar fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Lamalmar lands a nice looking body shot.

Gordon moves into range and clinches up with Lamalmar.
Gordon blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Gordon is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Gordon works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Gordon is pushing down on Lamalmar's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lamalmar is fighting to maintain full guard but Gordon has managed to sneak the leg through.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gordon passes the guard and advances to mount!
Gordon takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lamalmar is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lamalmar swings wildly with an uppercut but Gordon uses good head movement to avoid it.

Gordon is trying to drag Lamalmar to the mat but Lamalmar just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Gordon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Lamalmar enables Gordon to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lamalmar manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Gordon is trying to break the clinch but Lamalmar is controlling him.

Gordon is trying to maintain a safe position but Lamalmar gets an underhook and turns Gordon into the cage.

Gordon pulls Lamalmar into guard.
Gordon has control of Lamalmar's left arm, preventing Lamalmar from doing any damage.
Gordon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lamalmar's guard.

Gordon has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Lamalmar defend it? Gordon steps over the head and cranks it - Lamalmar is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Gordon!
