PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dexter Winters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Weiner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Henry Weiner told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dexter Winters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Henry Weiner!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Weiner drives through and clinches with Winters against the cage.
Weiner misses with some punches.
Weiner wants to get back to striking at distance but Winters won't allow it.

Winters breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Winters takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Weiner closes the distance and clinches.
Winters stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Weiner is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Winters has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Weiner uses from the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Weiner throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Winters tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Weiner is in Winters's guard.
Winters is looking to stand back up but Weiner counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Winters.


Weiner is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Winters has managed to free his arm - good work.

Winters wants to get back to full guard.
Winters might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Weiner is keen to just control but Winters is a slippery customer.

Weiner gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Weiner shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Winters trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Winters is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Weiner is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Winters pulls his head out easily.

Weiner is looking for a triangle but Winters pushes his legs off easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Winters looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Henry Weiner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Weiner looks to land a combination but Winters avoids it well.

Winters tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Weiner just stands there and leans against the cage.
Weiner has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Weiner turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Weiner has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Winters uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Weiner manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Weiner tries to land a knee to the head but Winters blocks with his arms.

Winters manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Winters looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Winters keeping moving, preventing Weiner from controlling successfully.
Winters wants to sweep here but Weiner controlling him for the moment.
Weiner wants to control from the top but Winters keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dexter Winters will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Weiner is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Weiner advances position into side control!
Weiner with the ground and pound but Winters regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

Winters tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Weiner manages to move to mount!
Winters bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Weiner not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Winters not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Henry Weiner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Weiner has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
