PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jamie Hull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lugar Vensin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Lugar Vensin was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jamie Hull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lugar Vensin!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Daniel Franklin and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hull shoots in looking for a takedown but Vensin manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hull's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Vensin clinches.
Hull tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Vensin just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hull takes an elbow to the forehead.


It looks like Jamie Hull has been cut.
Hull has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Vensin after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jamie Hull. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hull drags the fight down to the ground.
Vensin throwing strikes from guard but Hull blocks nicely.

Hull has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Vensin is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hull.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vensin tries to score with some ground and pound. Hull controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Hull takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Vensin has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Hull closes this distance looking for a takedown but Vensin circles away.

Vensin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hull wants to control from the top but Vensin keeps moving.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Vensin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Hull wants to get back to full guard but Vensin has mounted him!

Hull is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hull looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Hull is in a horrible position here. Vensin smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Hull swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

Vensin postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hull looks a forlorn figure.

Hull is bucking up trying to escape but Vensin cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Vensin throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Vensin avoids the attempt from Hull to control.
Hull is wriggling around trying to escape.

Vensin is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hull is surviving well by controlling Vensin's body position as best he can.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Vensin has control of Hull's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hull regains control of the situation pretty easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Hull's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Vensin moves into the clinch successfully.

Vensin pulls Hull into guard.
Vensin pulls Hull in to control the position.
Hull in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hull postures up in Vensin's guard and throws a big left but Vensin blocks it.
Hull is in close to Vensin's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Hull with a flurry of punches that miss.
Vensin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hull stands up and waves to Vensin to follow him.
Hull dives in for a single leg takedown but Vensin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Vensin tries to clinch there but Hull circles away.
Hull tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Vensin defends well and Hull ends up having to push Vensin into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Hull shoots in for a double leg but Vensin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Vensin gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Vensin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hull swivels and escapes.
Hull has a takedown stuffed.
Hull stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hull wants it to stay on the feet.
Vensin is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vensin leaves Hull with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Vensin looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Hull changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Vensin fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Hull fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Vensin sprawls well initially but Hull persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jamie Hull will probably get the nod.

Hull shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Vensin's guard.

Vensin has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Hull is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Vensin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hull avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Vensin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Vensin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hull swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Vensin leaves Hull with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hull closes this distance looking for a takedown but Vensin circles away.
Hull stuffs the takedown attempt from Vensin. Vensin gets slowly back to his feet.

Hull will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Hull seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hull thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hull throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Vensin's waist but Vensin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hull off to one side.
Nice takedown defense from Vensin. No joy for Hull on that attempt.

Hull feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

I would just about give that final round to Lugar Vensin.
Well Vensin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
