Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Leopoldo Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Phillips (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Leopoldo Ray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, David Phillips!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Phillips has Ray up against the cage in a clinch.
Phillips wants to get back to striking at distance but Ray won't allow it.
Ray really is a fat lump.

Ray pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Phillips's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Phillips duly obliges.


It looks like Leopoldo Ray has been cut.

Ray rushes Phillips and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Phillips using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Ray has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Phillips wants to take the fight to the mat but Ray manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Phillips is trying to push Ray away but Ray has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Ray prevents Phillips from breaking the clinch.
Phillips keeps control of Ray as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Ray breaks the clinch.
Ray dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Phillips. That did some damage!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Phillips moves into the clinch successfully.

Phillips got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ray has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Phillips has managed to get both his arms back between Ray's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ray is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Phillips dives into side control.
Ray gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Ray tries to roll over but Phillips keeps him under control.
Ray makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ray.

Ray is working an open guard so Phillips takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Leopoldo Ray is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Phillips throws a wild body kick that Ray sees coming a mile off.
Phillips fails with a takedown attempt.

Phillips doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ray counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ray.
Leopoldo Ray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Phillips.
Phillips has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ray is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Ray turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ray manages to end up in side control.
Phillips is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ray is putting a hurting on Phillips here, landing some big shots from side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Phillips is trying to get back to his feet.
Ray tries to move to mount but Phillips blocks the move with his legs.
Ray moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Ray is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Phillips is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Ray wants to lay and pray for a moment but Phillips keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Ray tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Ray stuffs the takedown.
Ray doesn't manage to clinch there - Phillips circles away.
Ray swats away the attempt to clinch by Phillips.
As Phillips tries to get set, Ray tries to push him back and clinch up but Phillips manages to avoid the attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ray looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Phillips wants to counter the offense by Ray and move into the clinch position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Phillips fails with an attempt to clinch.
Phillips lands a nice looking body shot.
Phillips tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ray manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Leopoldo Ray will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ray leaves Phillips with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ray tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Phillips manages to circle out of the way.

Phillips misses with a double jab.
Ray wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Phillips pulls guard successfully.
Ray prevents Phillips from getting back to his feet.

Phillips has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ray off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
David Phillips is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Phillips lands a left and a right that send Ray crashing to the mat, dazed. Phillips thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Phillips wants to clinch up but Ray keeps it at a distance.

Ray has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ray wants to hit a switch here but Phillips passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Ray there!
Ray flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

Phillips get's back to his feet.
Phillips lands a jab to Ray's midsection.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Oooooh!!! Phillips has knocked Ray down with a huge combo! Phillips steps away and waves a wobbly Ray back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Ray is rocked!
Ray loses concentration momentarily and Phillips pounces with a three punch combo! Right, left, right! Ray crashes face first to the mat, out cold! Phillips finishes this one with a fantastically precise combo! Great stuff.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). David Phillips!
