Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jose Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yasuhiro Akagi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akagi is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Nash the Slash - American Band. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yasuhiro Akagi!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akagi goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Silva takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
We've been hearing reports that Silva has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
A head kick misses from Silva.
Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Akagi pinned against the cage. Akagi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And Akagi responds with a good body kick, but Silva manages to step out the way in time.
Silva throws a head kick but Akagi moves out of range.

Silva gets the takedown into side control.

Silva throws an elbow but Akagi slips to the side and avoids it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Akagi parries the strikes from Silva easily there. Silva is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Akagi to escape.

Silva tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Silva has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Silva is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Akagi knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Akagi is trying to improve his position.
Silva tries to score with some ground and pound. Akagi controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Akagi can't do much from the bottom here.
Akagi sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Akagi wants to control but Silva is keeping busy.

Silva throws an elbow that misses. Akagi uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Silva's guard. Nice move by Akagi!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Akagi tries to pass to full mount but Silva defends it.

Akagi decides to stand back up. Akagi steps back and let's Silva get back to his feet.
Silva shoots in but Akagi avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Silva shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silva thuds his shin into the meat of Akagi's side.
Akagi throws an off balance right hand
and Akagi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Akagi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silva swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Silva lands a glancing blow to the side of Akagi's head.
Silva throws the kick towards the body but Akagi avoids it.
Akagi only half commits to the counter leg kick.

Akagi moves into range and clinches up with Silva.
Silva lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Akagi can't find room to land a body shot as Silva controls the action.
Silva is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Akagi pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Akagi lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Silva backwards.

Akagi breaks the clinch.
Jose Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Silva lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Akagi pinned against the cage. Akagi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Yasuhiro Akagi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Akagi digs a good hook to Silva's body.
Nice straight punches there by Akagi. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Akagi.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jose Silva will probably get the nod.

and Silva counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Silva stalling away here and it's allowed Akagi to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Silva loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Silva throws an elbow that misses. Akagi uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Silva's guard. Nice move by Akagi!

Well, if Akagi is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Silva wants to get back to full guard but Akagi has passed into side control.
Silva is looking to reverse the position.

Akagi stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Silva is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Akagi's half guard.

Silva stands and throws Akagi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
You can see the frustration on Akagi's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Silva has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Akagi regains half guard there - taking advantage of Silva's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Akagi is staying active underneath Silva, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Silva is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Akagi defends it well.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Silva throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Silva goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Silva.
Akagi throws a hook to the side of Silva's head but Silva sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Akagi moves out of range as Silva strikes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Akagi ducks under a wild hook from Silva.
Silva throws a sloppy head kick
and Akagi counters with a straight right hand.
Akagi takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Akagi does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Silva slips a jab from Akagi.
Akagi doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Silva scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Silva darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Akagi swinging wildly here.
Silva looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Akagi takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Silva closes this distance looking for a takedown but Akagi circles away.

Silva is rocked!
BAM! Akagi delivers a spinning backfist that drops Silva like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground!
