Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Smith!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiroshi Ekaku!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Bruno Lombardi and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ekaku keeps the fight on the outside.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Ekaku! But no joy.
Smith throws a lazy right hand but Ekaku sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Smith avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Smith fails in his attempt to clinch.
Smith throws a poor cross that misses
and Ekaku counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Smith scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target.
Smith throws a right and a left that Ekaku avoids nicely.
Ekaku is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
A jab from Smith finds it's way through Ekaku's defenses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith misses the body punch
and Ekaku counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Smith connects with a nice looking jab.
Smith throws a big shot that misses.
Ekaku moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Smith lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Smith pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
It seemed like Ekaku was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Smith definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Smith looks to score with a jab to the body but Ekaku is just out of range.
Despite the aggression on Ekaku's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Ekaku slips under a jab from Smith.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Ekaku! But no joy.
Smith cracks Ekaku with a right hand to the side of the head.
Smith's corner calls for a 1-2. Smith obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Smith throws a lazy right hand but Ekaku sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ekaku is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Smith has managed to clinch.
Ekaku is trying to pull guard but Smith has him pressed against the cage.
Smith lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Smith misses with some punches.
Still in the clinch, Smith scores with a nice short uppercut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith can't find room to land a body shot as Ekaku controls the action.
Smith is pushing Ekaku up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Smith tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Smith tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Ekaku's elbow.
Ekaku throws a head punch that misses.
Smith can't find room to land a body shot as Ekaku controls the action.
A body shot lands from Smith.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Ekaku creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Smith scores with a shot to the side of Ekaku's head.

Ekaku jumps guard.

Ekaku is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Smith rolls with it to try and escape but Ekaku cranks on the arm and Smith is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Hiroshi Ekaku! Hiroshi Ekaku retains his featherweight title!
A very excited looking Hiroshi Ekaku made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
