PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Christopher Levine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lokk Bresner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Christopher Levine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lokk Bresner!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Levine pushes Bresner up against the cage in a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Levine takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Bresner works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Bresner is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Levine is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Levine being controlled here, momentarily.
Bresner won't allow Levine to sweep him here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bresner tries to stand but Levine is controlling from the bottom.

Bresner avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Bresner trying to control the position from guard on top but Levine is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bresner is looking to stand up but Levine won't let him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Bresner gets the takedown into side control.
Levine dodges the ground and pound from Bresner.
Levine throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

Bresner wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Levine, who protects the arm well.

Bresner swings around for an armbar but Levine sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bresner's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bresner avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Bresner working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Levine.
Bresner not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Levine will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Bresner trying to control the position here.
Bresner wants to control the position but Levine says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Levine throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Levine is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Levine wants to work for an arm triangle but Bresner is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Levine takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Levine is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bresner sees it coming and defends easily.
Levine has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bresner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Levine is working away from the top position though.
Bresner is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Levine is staying active.

Levine stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Bresner's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Bresner duly obliges.
Danga de danga de dang - Bresner scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Christopher Levine has been cut.
Some wild striking there from Bresner.

Bresner moves into the clinch.
Levine stalling the fight.
Levine tries to score a body lock takedown but Bresner shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Bresner pushes off an throws an elbow but Levine leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Levine throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Bresner blocks it with crossed arms.
Levine misses with the head strike.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bresner is pressed up against the cage. Levine has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Bresner down to the mat. Bresner avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Bresner connects with a body shot.
Bresner scores with a jab to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Lokk Bresner will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Christopher Levine's cut.

Bresner bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
A lull in the action here.
Bresner postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Bresner taking a breather here.
Levine tries to improve position but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bresner goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Levine has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bresner but great work by Levine.

Levine is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bresner is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Levine really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Levine is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bresner knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Levine tries to score with some ground and pound. Bresner controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Bresner is looking to regain half guard here but Levine keeps moving and retains side control.
Bresner wants to control but Levine postures up.

Levine stands up and beckons Bresner to his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Bresner dives in and scores a takedown into Levine's guard.
Levine keeping moving, preventing Bresner from controlling successfully.

Bresner would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bresner throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Levine counters with a shoot takedown. Bresner fights it but they end up in guard.

Bresner scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Levine takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Bresner is breathing heavily.

Bresner throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Levine decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bresner's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Levine throws a big right hand that misses.
Bresner looking to control.

Levine gets to his feet. Bresner looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Bresner cracks Levine with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Levine.
Levine scores with a couple of short elbows.

Levine working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Bresner tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Christopher Levine will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Levine is stalling here.
Levine slowing the pace effectively.

Bresner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Levine gets caught flat footed, as Bresner shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Levine is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Levine is adopting a defensive guard.
Levine trying to keep a closed guard but Bresner is proving a slippery customer.

Bresner throws a strike but Levine rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Levine wanted to stand there but Bresner had control of the position.
Christopher Levine overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bresner looking for a guillotine here but Levine defends easily.
Levine lands a couple of digs.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bresner is on top in guard.

Levine is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bresner is aware though and is defending well.
Bresner wants to stand but Levine is controlling his posture from full guard.
Bresner loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Levine is trying to keep Bresner in close.
Levine looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bresner is one step ahead there.
Bresner tries to free his leg and advance position but Levine is retaining full guard.

Levine is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Bresner trying to control but Levine is working from the bottom.

Levine working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bresner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bresner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Levine preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Bresner throws a lazy head kick

so Levine counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Bresner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Levine defends it easily.
Bresner takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Levine postures up and lands a big shot to Bresner's brow.
Bresner looking for a sweep. Not yet Bresner, not yet.
Bresner pulls Levine in close to prevent any damage.
Levine is looking to stand up but Bresner won't let him.
Levine distracts Bresner with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Levine tries to stand but Bresner is controlling from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Christopher Levine.
I think Levine has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
