Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Errol Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Spilsbury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Errol Hughes has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Errol Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Simon Spilsbury!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Spilsbury.
Spilsbury throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Spilsbury clinches with his opponent.
Hughes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Spilsbury smiles and moves away.

Spilsbury shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Spilsbury was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hughes wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Hughes throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Spilsbury is staying tight to Hughes's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Spilsbury decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Hughes closes this distance looking for a takedown but Spilsbury circles away.
Hughes avoids the head kick by Spilsbury.
Hughes tries to counter by clinching up but Spilsbury breaks away and moves out of range.
Spilsbury thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Hughes if he has to take too many more of those.

Spilsbury takes the fight into the clinch.
Hughes really is a fat lump.

Spilsbury ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Spilsbury no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Hughes gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Spilsbury has taken the fight to the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Spilsbury drags the fight down to the ground.

Hughes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Spilsbury has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hughes has managed to get both his arms back between Spilsbury's legs - danger averted.
Hughes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Spilsbury avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hughes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Spilsbury has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Spilsbury wants to sweep here but Hughes controlling him for the moment.
Spilsbury is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Hughes tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Spilsbury manages to move to mount!
Hughes is trying to escape the mount.

Hughes is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Spilsbury wants to control the pace but Hughes is squirming around nicely.

Spilsbury with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Hughes really wants to buck Spilsbury off and get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Spilsbury can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hughes is looking to escape.

Hughes gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Spilsbury to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Spilsbury closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hughes to the mat! Hughes manages to get full guard.
Hughes wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Spilsbury manages to pass to side control.


Hughes has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Spilsbury is on him like a limpet, forcing Hughes back against the cage.

Spilsbury has hold of one of Hughes's legs. Hughes is fighting the takedown attempt but Spilsbury gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Hughes pushes Spilsbury off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Spilsbury fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hughes, pushing him back against the cage.

Spilsbury escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hughes is looking to clinch but Spilsbury is avoiding it.
Spilsbury throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


It looks like Errol Hughes has been cut.

Spilsbury closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Spilsbury breaks from the clinch.

Spilsbury closes the distance and pushes Hughes back into the cage.

Spilsbury gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Spilsbury throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Hughes to regain full guard.
Spilsbury controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Hughes is looking for a triangle here but Spilsbury uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughes is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Spilsbury has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Spilsbury is looking to take a break and control but Hughes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Who's going to make the next move?

Hughes is pushing Spilsbury's head away, looking to escape. Spilsbury manages to hold on to the position though.
Hughes bucks up and tries to throw Spilsbury off but instead Spilsbury has got his back!
Simon Spilsbury has got the better of the ground game so far.

Spilsbury looking to break Hughes's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Hughes remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Spilsbury will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simon Spilsbury showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Spilsbury looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Hughes flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Hughes wants to control but Spilsbury is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Spilsbury postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Hughes to stand up.

Hughes is trying to pull guard but Spilsbury has him pressed against the cage.

A bit of stalling here from Spilsbury.

Spilsbury has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hughes uses from the top position.
Spilsbury is controlling Hughes's posture.

Let's hope that Spilsbury has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Hughes stands up from Spilsbury's guard - Hughes perhaps looking for a knockout.

Hughes has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Spilsbury regains guard immediately.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Spilsbury manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Spilsbury pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hughes tries to keep at a distance but Spilsbury has taken the fight into the clinch.

Spilsbury has clasped his hands together around Hughes's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hughes wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Spilsbury trying to control the action but Hughes is working from the bottom.

Hughes is trying to control Spilsbury's posture but Spilsbury avoids it.
Hughes is pushing Spilsbury's head away, looking to escape. Spilsbury manages to hold on to the position though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Spilsbury dives in and scores a takedown into Hughes's guard.

Hughes is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Spilsbury breaks the clinch.

Well Spilsbury has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
