The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Niemayer with a nice cross.
Hawkins does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

The fighters circling - Niemayer throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Hawkins tries to work over Niemayer's front leg with a kick but Niemayer checks it.

Hawkins has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Lamont Hawkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hawkins lands a leg kick that knocks Niemayer off balance momentarily.

and Niemayer counters with a nice low kick that buckles Hawkins's knee momentarily.

Niemayer stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Hawkins throws a shot from downtown. Niemayer moves away and avoids it.
Hawkins throws a jab but it's blocked by Niemayer.
A little feinted left hand from Niemayer on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Hawkins throws a chopping leg kick but Niemayer manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Hawkins feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Niemayers jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Hawkins moves away from the strike by Niemayer.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Hawkins! But no joy.

Hawkins lands a nice leg kick that just misses Niemayer's sensitive parts.

Hawkins looks to score with a jab to the body but Niemayer is just out of range.

Hawkins feints and then cracks Niemayer's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Niemayer down.

Hawkins lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

and Niemayer counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Hawkins counters with a nice uppercut.
Niemayer bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hawkins's head.

and Niemayer counters with a nice right hand that sends Hawkins toppling to the canvas! Hawkins scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Niemayer finish him?!

and Niemayer counters with a nice low kick that buckles Hawkins's knee momentarily.
Hawkins is still on wobbly legs! Can Niemayer finish him?
Hawkins walks straight into a right hand from Niemayer - that's dropped him! Niemayer jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Hawkins from any more punishment! Hawkins complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Lukas Niemayer!
