PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lon Hogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Calvin Cameron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lon Hogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Calvin Cameron!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cameron gets a clinch.

Hogan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cameron.
Hogan fails with a takedown attempt.
Cameron scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


It looks like Lon Hogan has been cut.
Hogan with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Cameron to score with a decent uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cameron drives through and clinches with Hogan against the cage.
Hogan misses with a punch to the body.
Cameron tries for a takedown. No joy.
Hogan tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Cameron's elbow.
Cameron misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Hogan.

Hogan is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Cameron pulls him back up using the underhooks.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lon Hogan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cameron is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Cameron decides to pull guard.
Hogan postures up in Cameron's guard and throws a big left but Cameron blocks it.
Hogan throws a big right hand that misses.

Hogan lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Hogan throws a strike but Cameron rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hogan is really struggling to control Cameron but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cameron's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Cameron throws a lazy head kick

and Hogan counters with a takedown into side control.

Cameron explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

and Hogan counters with a left and a right that stings Cameron.
Cameron looks winded!

Cameron shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cameron was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hogan is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Hogan is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cameron off and has taken his back!

Hogan seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Cameron's chin but Cameron turns very nicely into Hogan's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Cameron.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calvin Cameron dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Lon Hogan's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hogan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cameron uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Hogan tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lon Hogan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hogan tries to score a body lock takedown but Cameron shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Cameron ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Cameron no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Cameron wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Hogan manages to pass to side control.

Hogan is working for a kimura but Cameron is defending it quite comfortably.

Hogan wants to work for an arm triangle but Cameron is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Cameron pushes Hogan off looking to stand but Hogan dives back in and keeps control.
Cameron wants to improve his position but Hogan is controlling well.

Hogan seems to be working for a kimura but Cameron defends the submission attempt.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Cameron makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Hogan clinches.
Hogan has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cameron is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Hogan gets underhooks to prevent Cameron's takedown attempt.
Cameron connects with a knee to the head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Cameron won't allow Hogan to sweep him here.

Calvin Cameron showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Hogan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Cameron shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hogan but Hogan pushes him off and we're back to square one.
It appears Hogan was looking to counter with a kick there.
Cameron throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Hogan counters with a three punch combo that has Cameron backing up. Cameron nods at Hogan to acknowledge the strikes.
Hogan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Hogan stuffs the takedown.
Lon Hogan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Calvin Cameron.

Hogan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cameron is doing well to control the position and prevent Hogan from advancing to side control.
Hogan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cameron with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Hogan working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Cameron takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hogan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cameron defends it well.

Hogan could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hogan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cameron's head.

Hogan is looking for a kimura but Cameron is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hogan to get the leverage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cameron wants to get back to full guard.

Cameron manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hogan manages to get himself to full guard.

Hogan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cameron pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Calvin Cameron seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cameron looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hogan is fending him off so far but Cameron persists. Nope, Hogan circles away and we're back to standing.
Hogan has a takedown stuffed.

Cameron instigates a clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Lon Hogan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Calvin Cameron is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Cameron has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hogan uses from the top position.

I think Cameron has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
