PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Harrison Vaughn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Heke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Harrison Vaughn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Heke!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A bone on bone clash there as Vaughn blocks the leg kick.
Heke fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Vaughn manages to avoid it.
Heke goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Vaughn throws a big counter combination but Heke scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Heke, right into the meat.
Heke scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Vaughn avoids the head kick by Heke.
A telegraphed right hand from Heke misses the target.
Vaughn moves out of range of the body kick from Heke.
Heke throws a poor cross that misses
and Vaughn counters with a left and a right that stings Heke.

Heke shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Vaughn manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Heke wants to control from the top but Vaughn keeps moving.
Heke must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Heke accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Heke is working Vaughn over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Vaughn controls Heke momentarily but Heke frees himself.
Vaughn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Heke turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Heke manages to end up in side control.

Vaughn takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Heke postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Vaughn is refusing to be controlled, as Heke sits in half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Heke in particular looking to stall.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vaughn is not content to let Heke control the position.
Heke is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vaughn wanted to stand there but Heke had control of the position.
Vaughn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Vaughn loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Heke has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Vaughn is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Heke works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Jake Heke has got the better of the ground game so far.
Vaughn has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Heke is proving hard to escape from.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vaughn is not going to allow Heke to sit and survive in this position.

Vaughn lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Heke.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vaughn is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Vaughn sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Heke is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Vaughn has taken his back!
Heke is trying to get back to his feet but Vaughn has full control of the position and if anything, Heke has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Vaughn is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Heke has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Vaughn gets his hands free as Heke looks to control.

Heke breaks Vaughn's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Heke lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Heke passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Vaughn can't do much from the bottom here.
Vaughn manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Heke looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Heke looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Vaughn with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

I would just about give that final round to Jake Heke.
I think Heke has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
