Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Diotte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trent Punchy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diotte's entrance music is Cypress Hill - I Want 2 Get High. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 40 - 31 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Andrew Diotte!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Trent Punchy!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Punchy throws a one two combo.
Punchy swinging wildly here.
Diotte uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Punchy.
Diotte drops down looking for a counter takedown but Punchy sprawls and moves away.
Diotte misses with a low kick.
Punchy pivots, looking for a leg kick but Diotte is out of range and Punchy settles back down.
Diotte moves out of range of the strikes.
Diotte has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Tartarus in the buildup to the fight.

Diotte drops down looking for a counter takedown but Punchy sprawls and moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Diotte uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Punchy.

Punchy uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Diotte.
Punchy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Diotte but Diotte pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Diotte tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Punchy was well out of range. Poor timing from Diotte.

and Diotte counters with a nice double leg into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Punchy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Diotte can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Punchy has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Diotte is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Punchy.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Punchy is looking for a sweep.
Punchy is trying to control Diotte's posture but Diotte avoids it.
Diotte is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Punchy is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Andrew Diotte will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Trent Punchy seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Diotte thuds his right hand into Punchy's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

A jab-cross combination lands for Punchy and sends Diotte crashing to the mat! Punchy follows him down to the mat - Diotte regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Punchy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Diotte does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Punchy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Punchy throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Punchy is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Diotte is refusing to be controlled, as Punchy sits in half guard.
Punchy is just content to waste time from the top position. Diotte takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Punchy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Punchy connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Diotte some visible discomfort.

You can see the frustration on Diotte's face as Punchy controls the position.

Trent Punchy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Diotte is looking to wear down Punchy with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Punchy connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Diotte momentarily.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Punchy is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Diotte defends well.
Diotte is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Diotte got a little sloppy there for a moment and Punchy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diotte has managed to get both his arms back between Punchy's legs - danger averted.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Punchy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

I would just about give that final round to Trent Punchy.
Well Punchy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
