Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kent Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Micheal Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Micheal Bates is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kent Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Micheal Bates!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones takes a swing at Bates's ribcage but misses.
Jones fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Bates looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Jones slips a jab and a cross from Bates.
Nice straight punches there by Bates. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Bates.
Jones throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bates uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jones.

Bates throws a right and a left that both miss.

Bates bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bates working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Jones is trying to buck Bates off.

Bates prevents Jones from escaping the position.

Check out the look on Bates's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Bates has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bates looks up at the clock and then as Jones takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Bates smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Bates is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Jones will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Jones explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Bates is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Bates closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.
Bates rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jones swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Bates keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Bates clinches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bates is trying to drag Jones to the mat but Jones just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Bates's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Jones creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Jones wants to stall.
Bates misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Bates tries to land knees in the clinch but Jones avoids the damage to the body.
Jones blocks a body shot from Bates.
Bates tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Jones avoids it.
Bates trying to control the position but instead, Jones has worked for underhooks and has pushed Bates into the cage.
Jones tries to break the clinch but Bates is controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bates has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Kent Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Micheal Bates.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bates wants a takedown.
Jones has had enough of the clinch but Bates keeps him there for the moment.
Bates is trying to drag Jones to the mat but Jones just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Bates's coach down at Arvins Bootcamp was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Bates's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Bates tries to stall but Jones uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Jones tries to break free but Bates pushes him back against the cage.
Jones is trying to break the clinch but Bates has him pressed against the cage.
Jones wants to break the clinch but can't.
Jones wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bates has him pressed against the cage.
Bates misses with an elbow strike.
Bates drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jones gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Bates is looking for a takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Micheal Bates will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Jones comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Bates shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Jones lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Bates tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jones fails to land with a series of punches.
Jones uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Bates has time to react.


Bates is rocked!
Jones is looking to wear down Bates with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Jones scores with a shot to the body.
Bates is still on wobbly legs! Can Jones finish him?
Micheal Bates is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
BOOM! Jones lands a beautiful left hook that drops Bates. Bates tries to recover but Jones is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Bates lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kent Jones!
