Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vladimir Rostov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Drew Wood!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Sandra Marshall and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rostov wants to clinch.

Wood fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rostov, pushing him back against the cage.

Rostov manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Rostov is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Rostov is working an open guard so Wood takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wood fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rostov sprawls well initially but Wood persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Rostov is defending against the submission attempts here by Wood.
Rostov trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Wood manages to pass to mount!

Rostov is bucking up trying to escape but Wood cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Rostov is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Rostov takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Wood fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rostov tries to control Wood's body but Wood pushes him off. Rostov squirms to his side and now Wood has his back!

Rostov rolls, trying to escape but Wood keeps control of the position.
Rostov is trying to get back to his feet but Wood has full control of the position and if anything, Rostov has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Wood is working the ground and pound. Can Rostov escape?

Wood is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Rostov knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Rostov for a finish.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Wood is riding his opponent, not letting Rostov buck him off.
Rostov manages to reverse the position and now he's in Wood's guard. Nice work there by Rostov.
Rostov won't allow Wood to sweep him here.
Wood thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Wood has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Wood walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Wood shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rostov misses with a double jab.
Wood dodges the punch combination from Rostov.
Despite the aggression on Wood's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Wood tries a head kick but it misses.
Rostov is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

A jab from Rostov finds it's way through Wood's defenses.
Rostov is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Rostov throws the left hand but Wood avoids the punch easily.

Wood slips a jab and a cross from Rostov.
Rostov looks to land a right hand but Wood moved out of range.
Rostov is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Wood shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rostov but Rostov pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rostov drops down looking for a counter takedown but Wood sprawls and moves away.
Rostov feints a jab promting Wood to slip. Rostov then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Wood slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


It looks like Drew Wood has been cut.
Wood cracks a nice hook into Rostov's ribs.
Rostov will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Wood throws a counter combo.

Wood bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Wood scores with a couple of short elbows.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wood has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Wood fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rostov sprawls well initially but Wood persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Rostov tries to kick Wood off but Wood keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Wood seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Rostov wants to get back to full guard.

Wood tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Wood is landing with some decent strikes but Rostov is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Rostov tries to control Wood's body but Wood pushes him off. Rostov squirms to his side and now Wood has his back!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wood is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Rostov with him. Rostov is trying to defend but Wood has an arm under the chin now! Rostov grimaces and is forced to tap out!
