PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gerard Geeson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Servant Arthur (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Geeson comes to the cage accompanied by Slayer - Bloodline. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gerard Geeson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Servant Arthur!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Geeson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Arthur to the mat! Arthur manages to get full guard.
Arthur wants to sweep but no luck.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Arthur is on top in guard.

Geeson working a defensive guard here.
Arthur must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Arthur's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Arthur stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Geeson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Arthur keeps trying to improve his position.

Geeson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Arthur defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Arthur content to stall in guard here.

Geeson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Arthur can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Arthur stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Geeson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Arthur forces his way into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Arthur is looking to advance position but Geeson won't allow it.
Arthur is controlling the pace.
Geeson trying to control from the bottom.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Geeson looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Arthur is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Arthur wants to free his trapped foot but Geeson is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Gerard Geeson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Arthur closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Geeson is breathing heavily.
Arthur trying to control but he's not successful this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Servant Arthur dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

You can see the frustration on Geeson's face as Arthur controls the position.

Arthur has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The referee asks Arthur politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Arthur prefers to stall for the moment though.

Arthur is trying to get an arm triangle but Geeson is defending well.
Arthur works to advance to full mount. Geeson defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Arthur is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Geeson is surviving well by controlling Arthur's body position as best he can.

Arthur has control of Geeson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Geeson regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Arthur can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Geeson is looking to escape.

Geeson regains half guard.
Arthur looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Arthur wants to work for an arm triangle but Geeson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Geeson tries to roll over but Arthur keeps him under control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Arthur has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Servant Arthur has got the better of the ground game so far.
Arthur's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Geeson wants to improve his position but Arthur is controlling well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Arthur is working for a submission of some sort.
Arthur takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nice sprawl there from Arthur as Geeson shoots in.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Arthur manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Geeson on his heels. He'll look to pass Geeson's guard now, I'm sure.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Servant Arthur showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Arthur is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Geeson's half guard.

Geeson has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Arthur is on him like a limpet, forcing Geeson back against the cage.
Geeson is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Arthur jumps into guard, dragging Geeson to the mat.
Geeson postures up.

Geeson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Arthur looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Arthur looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Arthur!

Arthur has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Geeson!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Arthur controlling his opponent.

Arthur wants to control the pace but Geeson is squirming around nicely.

Servant Arthur comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Arthur has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
