PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Harrison Vaughn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Area (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lucas Area will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Harrison Vaughn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lucas Area!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Area feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Vaughn's calf.
Area lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Vaughn takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Area connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Area bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Area throws a series of strikes that have Vaughn backpedaling.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Area lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Vaughn has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Vaughn and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Area swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Some wild striking there from Area.
A low kick from Area misses
and Vaughn counters with a three punch combo that has Area backing up. Area nods at Vaughn to acknowledge the strikes.
Vaughn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Vaughn has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Area.
Vaughn avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Area throws the kick towards the body but Vaughn avoids it.
Vaughn was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Area throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Vaughn ducks right into an uppercut from Area.
Area throws a push kick but Vaughn slaps the foot to one side.
Area moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A combination from Area does no damage.
Area lands with a kick to the ribs.
Vaughn avoids a punch combination nicely.
Area throws a one two combo.
Area checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Area shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Vaughn eats them both and turns towards Area to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Area checks a low kick from Vaughn.
Vaughn throws a low kick but Area moves out of range easily.
Area looks to land a right hand but Vaughn moved out of range.
Vaughn is looking to counter punch.
Area scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Area looks winded!
Vaughn keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Area catches Vaughn with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Area misses with a double jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Vaughn clinches up with Area and pushes him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Area blocking some punches.
Vaughn lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Vaughn lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Vaughn throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Areas head.
A short right from Vaughn on the inside.
Vaughn tries to work over Area's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Area on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Vaughn has Area pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Area manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Vaughn jumps guard and drags Area to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Vaughn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Area doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Area manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Vaughn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Area's guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vaughn is in close to Area's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Vaughn stands up from Area's guard - Vaughn perhaps looking for a knockout.

Vaughn instigates a clinch.
Vaughn doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Still in the clinch, Vaughn scores with a nice short uppercut.
Vaughn tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Area avoids it.
Vaughn can't find room to land a body shot as Area controls the action.
Area blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Area gets underhooks to prevent Vaughn's takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vaughn softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

Vaughn gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Vaughn escapes and gets back to his feet.
An inside leg kick from Vaughn misses.
Lucas Area seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Area gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Vaughn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vaughn with a nice head shot there.

Vaughn decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Area, up you get!
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Area checks a leg kick.
Nice sprawl there from Area as Vaughn shoots in.
Despite the aggression on Area's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Harrison Vaughn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Area misses with a double jab.
Vaughn appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Harrison Vaughn will probably get the nod.
That's time! Vaughn's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Vaughn throws out a loose jab but Area uses good head movement to avoid it.
Area jabs Vaughn right on the nose. Vaughn blinks but takes it well.
Area throws a right and a left that Vaughn avoids nicely.
Vaughn appears to be looking for a big counter.
Area thows a leg kick but Vaughn checks it

and Vaughn counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Area!
Area wants to get back to his feet but Vaughn is dominant here and he's now got Area's back!

Vaughn has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Area! Can he survive? No! He's out! Vaughn gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Harrison Vaughn!
