PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Mulligan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig Bellamy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that John Mulligan has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily John Mulligan seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Mulligan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Craig Bellamy!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bellamy takes a swing at Mulligan's ribcage but misses.

Bellamy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A bit of stalling here from Bellamy.
Mulligan on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Mulligan.
Mulligan is looking to break free of the clinch but Bellamy has double underhooks.
Bellamy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mulligan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Bellamy looking to throw knees to the head but Mulligan is blocking nicely.
Mulligan wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mulligan is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Bellamy is defending well.

Mulligan throws a big counter combination but Bellamy scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Bellamy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mulligan swivels and escapes.
Mulligan is looking for a counter combo.
Mulligan shoots in and drives through. Bellamy sprawls well.
Mulligan shoots in but Bellamy avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Bellamy lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like John Mulligan has been cut.
Horrible takedown attempt by Mulligan or perhaps it was just good defense by Bellamy, which made it look bad.

Come on Bellamy - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Bellamy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Bellamy fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mulligan avoids it really well and circles away.
Bellamy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Bellamy gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Mulligan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Bellamy tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Mulligan is trying to drag Bellamy to the mat but Bellamy just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Bellamy breaks the clinch.
Mulligan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bellamy defends well and Mulligan ends up having to push Bellamy into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Bellamy tries to score a body lock takedown but Mulligan shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Bellamy misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mulligan.

Bellamy has gone for a leg lock! Mulligan slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bellamy's guard.

Mulligan chips away with some ground and pound.

Bellamy is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Mulligan dives into side control.

Mulligan creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Mulligan trying to control the action but Bellamy is working from the bottom.
Mulligan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mulligan tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Mulligan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mulligan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Bellamy tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Mulligan bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Craig Bellamy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bellamy misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mulligan is looking to counter the offense by Bellamy and move into the clinch.

Bellamy leaves Mulligan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mulligan is on top in guard.

Craig Bellamy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bellamy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
