The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bates looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Quintana!
Quintana avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Bates.
Bates tries to score with some ground and pound. Quintana controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Quintana is working an open guard so Bates takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Bates shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Bates was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bates misses with a head shot. Quintana uses the momentum to regain guard.
Quintana wants to stand up but Bates is controlling him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Bates could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Quintana connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bates takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
