Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmy Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz shoots in and bounces Rodrigez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Rodrigez is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Diaz presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Diaz has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Rodrigez regains guard immediately.

Rodrigez uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Diaz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Rodrigez!
Rodrigez tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Rodrigez wants to control but Diaz is having none of it.

Diaz wants to control the pace but Rodrigez is squirming around nicely.

Diaz is working for a guillotine from mount but Rodrigez frees his head quite easily.
Rodrigez is breathing heavily.
Rodrigez avoids a series of strikes thrown by Diaz.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Rodrigez holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Diaz tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Diaz throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Diaz wants to control the pace but Rodrigez is squirming around nicely.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Diaz thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Diaz is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Rodrigez is surviving well by controlling Diaz's body position as best he can.
Diaz can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rodrigez is looking to escape.
Diaz throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Rodrigez because Diaz loaded up on that one.
Diaz unloads with some shots from mount but Rodrigez bucks and avoids them well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rodrigez is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Diaz throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Rodrigez because Diaz loaded up on that one.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Diaz shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Diaz showed some decent athleticism there.
Diaz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rodrigez's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rodrigez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Diaz wants to pass the guard but Rodrigez is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Diaz is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Rodrigez as he works his way to full guard.

Diaz goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Rodrigez rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Diaz's guard! Nice work there by Rodrigez!

Diaz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rodrigez defends it easily.

Diaz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Diaz tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Diaz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rodrigez decides to stand up, so the ref orders Diaz to his feet.

Diaz stuns Rodrigez with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Diaz closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rodrigez did well to prevent Diaz getting side control.
Rodrigez is refusing to be controlled, as Diaz sits in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diaz is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rodrigez can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Diaz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Let's hope that Diaz has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Diaz throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Diaz throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rodrigez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Diaz is in Rodrigez's guard.

Diaz decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Diaz is trying to trip Rodrigez. He has hold of a leg but Rodrigez is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Diaz persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Diaz postures up in Rodrigez's guard and throws a big left but Rodrigez blocks it.
Diaz pushes down on Rodrigez's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Diaz is looking for submissions but instead, Rodrigez has regained full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Diaz throws an elbow that misses. Rodrigez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Diaz's guard. Nice move by Rodrigez!

Diaz is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Diaz wants to stand and escape but Rodrigez is having none of it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Diaz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rodrigez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Diaz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee asks Diaz politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Diaz prefers to stall for the moment though.

Rodrigez is not content to let Diaz control the position.

Diaz is trying to get an arm triangle but Rodrigez is defending well.
Rodrigez tries to improve position but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rodrigez prevents Diaz from moving into mount.
Emanuel Rodrigez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jimmy Diaz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Rodrigez throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Well Diaz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
