PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between JC The Sparbot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xavier Rocca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rocca has chosen ULTRAnumb by Blue Stahli as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, JC The Sparbot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xavier Rocca!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rocca misses with a hook

and The Sparbot counters with a shoot takedown. Rocca fights it but they end up in guard.
Rocca is looking to stand back up but The Sparbot counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Rocca.
Rocca really doesn't want to stay on the ground with The Sparbot. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The Sparbot slows the pace down in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rocca keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The Sparbot decides to stand up.
The Sparbot slips under a jab from Rocca.
As Rocca tries to get set, The Sparbot tries to push him back and clinch up but Rocca manages to avoid the attempt.
Rocca throws a hook but The Sparbot avoids it easily.
Rocca misses with a double jab
and The Sparbot counters with a left and a right that stings Rocca.
Rocca just misses with a punch to the body.
Rocca looks to land a right hand but The Sparbot moved out of range.

and The Sparbot counters with a three punch combo that has Rocca backing up. Rocca nods at The Sparbot to acknowledge the strikes.

and The Sparbot counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rocca won't be happy with that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rocca is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The Sparbot is staying tight to Rocca's torso, preventing him from escaping.

We've been hearing good reports from The Sparbot's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The Sparbot moves into full mount!
The Sparbot tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The Sparbot is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rocca can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The Sparbot lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rocca can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rocca's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and The Sparbot counters with a low kick, right behind Rocca 's knee.

Rocca misses with a right hand
and The Sparbot counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

so The Sparbot counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Rocca wants to get back to his feet but The Sparbot passes into half guard.
The Sparbot has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rocca pushes The Sparbot off looking to stand but The Sparbot dives back in and keeps control.
The Sparbot working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rocca wants to get back to his feet.

The Sparbot is nestled in close to Rocca, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Rocca is looking to escape.
The Sparbot looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Rocca scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but The Sparbot manages to mount him!

The Sparbot seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Rocca for as long as he can get away with.
JC The Sparbot overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The Sparbot is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Rocca defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
The Sparbot lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by The Sparbot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rocca is trying to get back to his feet but The Sparbot has full control of the position and if anything, Rocca has just worked his way into a worse spot.
The Sparbot is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rocca can do to turn this around?
Can Rocca hold on?! The Sparbot is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

The Sparbot sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Rocca taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). JC The Sparbot!
JC The Sparbot took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
