PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Teodoro Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Boris Bragin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boris Bragin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Teodoro Armstrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Boris Bragin!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Fedor Mirinova and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bragin shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Armstrong napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Bragin wants to control for a moment but Armstrong uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Bragin stalling away here and it's allowed Armstrong to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Armstrong is adopting a defensive guard.
Bragin content to stall in guard here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bragin wants to pass the guard but Armstrong is keeping the position.

Armstrong wants to sweep but no luck.
Armstrong could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Armstrong has a closed guard, preventing Bragin from standing up.
Armstrong being controlled here, momentarily.
Bragin postures up in Armstrong's guard and throws a big left but Armstrong blocks it.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Bragin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Bragin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bragin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Armstrong keeps working.
Bragin tries to stand but Armstrong is controlling his head.

Armstrong tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Bragin easily slips into full mount!

Armstrong in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Bragin throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Armstrong is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Armstrong suckers Bragin into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Armstrong is now in Bragin's guard!
Bragin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Armstrong makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Armstrong might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bragin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Armstrong stands up from Bragin's guard - Armstrong perhaps looking for a knockout.

Bragin moves into range and clinches up with Armstrong.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bragin can't find room to land a body shot as Armstrong controls the action.

Bragin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Armstrong's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Bragin pushes Armstrong up against the cage in a clinch.

Bragin jumps into guard, dragging Armstrong to the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Armstrong with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Bragin tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Armstrong wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Bragin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Armstrong working over Bragin with some ground and pound. Bragin looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Armstrong looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Bragin is looking to stand up but Armstrong isn't so interested in that idea.

Armstrong stands and steps away. Bragin gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Bragin lands with an overhand left.

Bragin clinches with his opponent.
Bragin stalling in the clinch but Armstrong improves position.

Armstrong pulls guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bragin trying to control the position from guard on top but Armstrong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bragin throws a big right hand that misses.
Armstrong has Bragin pulled in close to control his posture.
Bragin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Armstrong swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bragin wants to control from the top but Armstrong keeps moving.
Bragin throws an elbow that misses. Armstrong uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Bragin's guard. Nice move by Armstrong!


That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Armstrong not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Armstrong has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Armstrong keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bragin's head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Armstrong lands a couple of elbows.
Armstrong trying to control but Bragin is working from the bottom.
Armstrong sitting in guard here, content to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Teodoro Armstrong will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Armstrong tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Armstrong has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Bragin tries to buck Armstrong off but Armstrong is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here.
Bragin is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
The referee asks Armstrong politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Armstrong prefers to stall for the moment though.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Armstrong's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Bragin misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Armstrong counters with a shoot takedown. Bragin fights it but they end up in guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Bragin manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bragin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Armstrong fails to land the takedown.
A head kick from Bragin lands but Armstrong takes it in his stride.

Bragin drives through with a takedown into Armstrong's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Bragin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bragin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Armstrong is pulling down on Bragin's head to control his posture.

Bragin looking to sit in guard and control but Armstrong gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Armstrong is looking to work some ground and pound but Bragin has wrist control.
Armstrong looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Bragin wants to stand but Armstrong is controlling the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Armstrong is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Bragin thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Bragin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

I would just about give that final round to Boris Bragin.
Well Bragin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
