Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Sakazuki Akainu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hector Davis!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Steven Brown and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Davis crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Akainu - the referee stops the clock and Davis gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Akainu. Davis manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Davis takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Akainu lands a leg kick that knocks Davis off balance momentarily.
Akainu lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.


It looks like Hector Davis has been cut.
An inside leg kick from Akainu misses.
Davis drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Akainu defends it well.

Akainu does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Akainu throws a sloppy head kick and Davis moves out of range easily.
Akainu swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Akainu connects with a solid leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Akainu lands with a kick to the temple. Davis shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Akainu paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Akainu throws out a loose jab but Davis uses good head movement to avoid it.
Akainu is looking to chop away at Davis's legs.
Davis is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Sakazuki Akainu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Akainu misses with a leg kick.

Akainu gets caught napping as Davis dives in and scores a takedown. Akainu manages to retain guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Davis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Davis passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Davis looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Akainu tries to bench press Davis off him but Davis keeps the position.

Akainu sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Davis winds up and cracks Akainu with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Davis seems to be working for a kimura but Akainu defends the submission attempt.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Davis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Akainu defends it well.

Davis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Davis lands with a punch from half guard.
Akainu is trying to get back to full guard.
Davis is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Davis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Akainu is looking to control Davis's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Akainu avoid being mounted?

Davis in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Akainu tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Davis!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hector Davis!
In his post fight interview, Hector Davis started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
Sakazuki Akainu was interviewed post fight and said 'Fuck you!'.
