Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Palmer Spears!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chuck Liddell!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Russell Pearce and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Liddell moves into range and clinches up with Spears.

Liddell pulls guard successfully.
Spears makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Spears is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Spears lands a couple of digs.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Spears's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Liddell trying to keep a closed guard but Spears is proving a slippery customer.
Spears has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Spears keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Liddell's head.
Spears missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Spears working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Liddell is looking for a triangle but Spears pushes his legs off easily.
Spears with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Spears makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Spears distracts Liddell with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Spears postures up in Liddell's guard and throws a big left but Liddell blocks it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Spears accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Spears working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Liddell's head.
Liddell is pulling down on Spears's head. It's preventing any offense from Spears, at least for the moment.
Liddell not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Spears throws a big right hand that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Liddell looking to control.
Liddell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Spears. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Spears wants to stand and escape but instead Liddell has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Spears is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Liddell trying to control but Spears is working from the bottom.
Liddell won't allow Spears to get back to his feet.
Spears keeping busy, throwing shots from the bottom.
Liddell won't allow Spears to sweep him here.
Spears is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Spears is nestled in close to Liddell, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Spears is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Spears working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Spears prevents Liddell from improving his position.

Spears is working for a submission of some sort.
Liddell misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Liddell tries to get to full guard but Spears has control of the leg.
Liddell has hold of Spears's hands but Spears slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Spears not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Liddell can do anything to dispel that myth.

Spears maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Liddell could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Spears has cracked it and Liddell is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Spears!
