PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Basurto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Striker Mc Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Basurto might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Tapout - Birdman. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Lucas Basurto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Striker Mc Steel!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, William Gold and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mc Steel throws a leg kick but Basurto sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Basurto is looking to counter punch.
Mc Steel fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Basurto on the side of the head.
Basurto uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mc Steel.
A quick step to the side and Basurto tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mc Steel throws a low kick but Basurto moves out of range easily.
Basurto is looking to counter punch.
Striker Mc Steel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mc Steel misses the jab.
Mc Steel throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Mc Steel misses with a looping left.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mc Steel will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Mc Steel.
Basurto ducks under a wild hook from Mc Steel.

Basurto feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Basurto passes Mc Steel's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Mc Steel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Basurto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Basurto looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Basurto thows a huge punch but Mc Steel dodges it nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Basurto wants to control but Mc Steel is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Basurto seems to be looking for submissions.

Basurto is working for a kimura but Mc Steel is defending it quite comfortably.

Basurto is looking for submissions but instead, Mc Steel has regained full guard.
Basurto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Basurto loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Basurto drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Basurto jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mc Steel has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Basurto has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Mc Steel tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Basurto wants to take the fight to the mat but Mc Steel manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Basurto is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Mc Steel gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Basurto tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucas Basurto. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mc Steel breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Basurto checks a leg kick.

Basurto bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Basurto is looking to counter punch.
Basurto looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Mc Steel fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Mc Steel, right into the meat.
Mc Steel misses with a low kick.
An attempted straight right counter from Basurto misses the target.
A punch combination from Mc Steel misses.
Basurto avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mc Steel throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Mc Steel misses with a leg kick.
It looked like Basurto was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Mc Steel.
Mc Steel swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A quick step to the side and Basurto tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A jab from Mc Steel finds it's way through Basurto's defenses.
Basurto moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Mc Steel swings for the body but Basurto moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Striker Mc Steel dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mc Steel feints and then cracks Basurto's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Basurto down.
Basurto moves out of range as Mc Steel strikes.
Basurto steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Mc Steel.
Mc Steel swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Basurto slips a jab and a cross from Mc Steel.
Mc Steel takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Basurto fails with the takedown
and Mc Steel counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mc Steel throws a poor cross that misses
and Basurto counters with a nice uppercut.
Mc Steel misses with a leg kick

and Basurto counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Basurto thows a huge punch but Mc Steel dodges it nicely.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mc Steel can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mc Steel wants to get back to his feet.

Basurto is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mc Steel doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Basurto.

Basurto is trying to work for a kimura but Mc Steel is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Basurto is trying for a kimura here. Mc Steel looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Basurto wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Lucas Basurto!
