PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Joshua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Nilsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joshua comes to the cage accompanied by Parklife- Blur. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Joshua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dennis Nilsen!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nilsen has his takedown stuffed
and Joshua counters with a thumping low kick.
Nilsen slips a jab and a cross from Joshua.
Nilsen throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Joshua misses with a looping left.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Nilsen crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Joshua - the referee stops the clock and Nilsen gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Joshua. Nilsen manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Nilsen has his takedown stuffed
and Joshua connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joshua throws a leg kick but Nilsen checks it.
Nilsen walks into a jab.


It looks like Dennis Nilsen has been cut.
Joshua shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Nilsen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nilsen showed some decent athleticism there.
Nilsen prevents Joshua from improving his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Joshua wants to control but Nilsen is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Nilsen is pressing down on Joshua's thigh, looking to free his foot. Joshua is holding on for now.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Nilsen is stalling here. Joshua is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Nilsen seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Joshua has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nilsen wants to hold on but Joshua pushes him away.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Joshua throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Nilsen is fighting to break Joshua's control of his arms but Joshua is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Nilsen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Joshua was covering up waiting for the punch and Nilsen finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Nilsen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Joshua on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Joshua tries to get out of the position.
Joshua is not content to let Nilsen control the position.

Joshua regains half guard.
Joshua is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Nilsen jumps into side control!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Nilsen is staying tight to Joshua's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Joshua is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Nilsen has just dragged him back down to the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dennis Nilsen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Nilsen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Nilsen is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Joshua pulls his head out easily.
Nilsen wants to improve his position but Joshua is controlling well.
Nilsen moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Joshua got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nilsen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Joshua has managed to get both his arms back between Nilsen's legs - danger averted.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Daniel Joshua.
I think Joshua has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
