PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Drew Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Rostov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rostov has chosen Rytmus prod. Sukowach - JEBE as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Vladimir Rostov will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Drew Wood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vladimir Rostov!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood throws a left and a right that both miss
and Rostov counters with a stiff right hand.
Wood throws a front kick aimed at Rostov's knee but Rostov avoids it well.

Rostov dives in and scores a takedown into Wood's guard.
Wood pulls Rostov in to control the position.
Wood's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Rostov stands up over Wood, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Rostov won't allow Wood to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wood had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rostov defends it easily.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rostov wants to control from the top but Wood keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wood is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Rostov jumps into side control!
Wood might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Wood is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Rostov's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Wood pushes Rostov off looking to stand but Rostov dives back in and keeps control.
Rostov is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Wood has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Rostov looks to land a combination but Wood avoids it well.

Rostov throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Wood throws the left hand but Rostov avoids the punch easily.
Rostov is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Rostov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wood's guard.
Vladimir Rostov has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rostov would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Wood is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Drew Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rostov tries to clinch but Wood is having none of it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wood shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Wood was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Wood wants to control from the top but Rostov keeps moving.
Rostov looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Wood puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

A close second round but Vladimir Rostov will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Wood throws a nice looking combination but Rostov bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Wood fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Rostov drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Wood has his feet on Rostov's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Wood gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Wood decides to stand back up. Wood steps back and let's Rostov get back to his feet.
Rostov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Wood gets caught napping as Rostov dives in and scores a takedown. Wood manages to retain guard.

Wood wriggles free and stands up.

Wood shoots in looking for a takedown but Rostov manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wood's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Wood throws a hook but Rostov blocks it.
Wood tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rostov swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Rostov drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Wood defends it well.
Rostov lands with an overhand left.
Rostov throws out a powerful jab.
Rostov misses with a wild body shot.
Rostov scores with a nice strike.
Wood fails with a takedown attempt.

Wood gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Rostov avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Rostov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wood swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rostov is pushing down on Wood's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wood is fighting to maintain full guard but Rostov has managed to sneak the leg through.

Wood wants to control but Rostov is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Rostov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wood keeps working.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Wood takes one to the side of the head.
Wood throws out a loose jab but Rostov uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rostov throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rostov dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Rostov punishes Wood's body with a nice straight punch.
Rostov thows a left - swing and a miss!
Wood shoots in but Rostov avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drew Wood. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rostov cracks Wood with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Vladimir Rostov is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I've got Rostov winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
