PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cu Chulainn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Potter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chulainn comes to the cage accompanied by The Blood of Cu Chulainn. Alexander Potter has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Cu Chulainn's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cu Chulainn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Potter!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chulainn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Potter is fending him off so far but Chulainn persists. Nope, Potter circles away and we're back to standing.
Potter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Chulainn.
Chulainn looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Potter stuffs the takedown attempt from Chulainn. Chulainn gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cu Chulainn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Potter feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Chulainn's calf.
Potter throws a leg kick which misses Chulainn's front leg but catches the back leg as Chulainn tries to avoid it.

Potter shoots in looking for a takedown. Chulainn tries to sprawl out of it but Potter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chulainn manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Potter manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Chulainn on his heels. He'll look to pass Chulainn's guard now, I'm sure.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chulainn is looking to work some ground and pound but Potter has wrist control.
Potter has momentary wrist control but Chulainn slips an elbow through the middle.
Potter controls Chulainn momentarily but Chulainn frees himself.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chulainn accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Chulainn slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Chulainn's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cu Chulainn will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Chulainn connects with a looping right hand.
Potter on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Chulainn ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Potter moves away.
A big right from Potter misses.
Chulainn takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Nice defenses there by Potter.
Cu Chulainn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chulainn waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Potter.
Potter throws a hook but Chulainn avoids it easily.
Potter stalks Chulainn and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Chulainn's face. Chulainn staggers backwards, shaken.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Chulainn.
And Potter tries to counter it with a takedown but Chulainn pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Potter tries to clinch up but Chulainn circles away and keeps his distance.
Potter stuffs the takedown.
Potter is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
The crowd cheers as Potter lands an impressive looking overhand right. Chulainn doesn't seem phased though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Chulainn tries to roll over but Potter keeps him under control.
Potter wants to free his trapped foot but Chulainn is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Potter passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Chulainn!

Potter lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Chulainn is in all sorts of trouble here.
Potter wants to control the pace but Chulainn is squirming around nicely.
Chulainn is looking to improve his position but Potter isn't that keen on the idea.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Potter can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Chulainn is looking to escape.

Alexander Potter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Chulainn's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Chulainn shoots for a double leg takedown but Potter sprawls well. He's pushed Chulainn's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Chulainn goes for a double leg but Potter avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Potter continues to drive forward.

Chulainn half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Chulainn shoots in looking for a takedown but Potter manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Chulainn's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Potter catches Chulainn with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Chulainn feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Chulainn is fighting to break Potter's control of his arms but Potter is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Potter attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Chulainn sizes up Potter with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Potter closes the distance and clinches up with Chulainn, looking for a takedown. Potter pushes Chulainn against the cage but Chulainn circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Potter slaps away a takedown attempt from Chulainn, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Potter uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Chulainn.

Chulainn has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Potter is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Potter breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Alexander Potter.
I think Potter has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
