Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Qasim Barakat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cedrick Frederick!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frederick throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Frederick on the wrong end of a nice jab.


It looks like Cedrick Frederick has been cut.
Barakat tries a head kick but it misses.
Frederick swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Frederick looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Frederick misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Barakat seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Frederick rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Barakat counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Frederick throws the left hand but Barakat avoids the punch easily.
Barakat tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Frederick was well out of range. Poor timing from Barakat.
Barakat throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Frederick paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Barakat blocks the body kick.
An inside leg kick lands from Barakat.
Barakat misses with a series of wild punches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Barakat counters with a straight right hand.

and Frederick counters with a thumping low kick.
Barakat bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Barakat tries to counter by clinching up but Frederick breaks away and moves out of range.
Frederick throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Frederick loads up on a big right hand but Barakat slips the punch.
Barakat seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Frederick connects with the punch.
Frederick throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Frederick pushes Barakat away with a front kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A chopping leg kick lands by Frederick.
Frederick thows a leg kick but Barakat checks it
and Barakat counters with a leg kick.
Barakat checks a low kick from Frederick.
Frederick misses with a lunging right hand
and Barakat counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Frederick fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Frederick bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Barakat's head backwards.
Frederick works the jab nicely.

Barakat closes the distance and clinches.
Barakat lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barakat stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Frederick has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Barakat blocking some punches.
Barakat keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Frederick's efforts to push away.
Frederick doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Frederick is trying to force a seperation but Barakat has the dominant position.

Barakat throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Fredericks head.
Barakat with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Frederick misses with a short punch on the inside.
Frederick tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Barakat wants to stall.
Barakat lands a body punch in the clinch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Barakat.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Barakat creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
I was talking to Barakat's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Barakat prevents Frederick from breaking the clinch.

Frederick scores with a nice hook to the head.
Barakat tries a body shot but Frederick blocks it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Qasim Barakat dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Cedrick Frederick's cut.
That's time! Barakat's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Barakat drives through and clinches with Frederick against the cage.
Barakat lands a right hand.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Barakat as Frederick tries to tie him up.
Barakat tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Frederick lands a right hand.
Frederick misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Barakat lands a right hand that snaps the head of Frederick backwards.


That has opened up Cedrick Frederick's cut even more.
Frederick tries to circle away but Barakat has him pinned against the cage.
Nice body punch from Barakat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barakat cracks Frederick with a nice body shot.

Frederick breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Barakat moves away from the strike by Frederick.
Barakat scores with a crisp jab that stopped Frederick in his tracks.

and Barakat counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Frederick throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Frederick throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Frederick scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Cedrick Frederick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barakat feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Fredericks jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Barakat steps in with a hook that catches Frederick right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Barakat follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Frederick looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Qasim Barakat!
Qasim Barakat bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
