Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Steve Quade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samuel Stephens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Samuel Stephens is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Quade!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Samuel Stephens!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Quade is defended easily by Stephens.
Stephens is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Stephens displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Quade displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Stephens.
Stephens lands a head kick!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quade shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stephens but Stephens pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Stephens gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Quade to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Quade gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stephens shoots in looking for a takedown. Quade tries to sprawl out of it but Stephens keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Quade manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Quade fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Stephens. No joy for Quade on that attempt.
Stephens tries to counter by closing the distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Quade. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Stephens.
Stephens keeps the fight on the outside.
Stephens feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Quade's calf.
Stephens shoots in looking for a takedown but Quade manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Stephens's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Quade looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Horrible takedown attempt by Quade or perhaps it was just good defense by Stephens, which made it look bad.
Stephens is looking for the big counter here.
Quade tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Stephens manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Quade throws a body punch but Stephens moves out of range.

Stephens clinches up with Quade and pushes him back against the cage.

Quade breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Stephens gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Stephens changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Quade fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Quade shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Quade tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Stephens counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Quade.
Quade closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stephens circles away.
As Quade backs off Stephens throws a huge counter combo but Quade manages to avoid it all.

Stephens takes the fight into the clinch.
Stephens will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Quade up against the cage.

Stephens continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.
Quade tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stephens smiles and moves away.

Quade gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Stephens utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Stephens lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Quade backwards.

Stephens manages to break the clinch.

Stephens has taken the fight to the clinch.
Quade trying to control the position but instead, Stephens has worked for underhooks and has pushed Quade into the cage.
Quade is trying to break the clinch but Stephens is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Samuel Stephens dominated that round.
That's time! Quade's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Stephens fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Quade closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stephens circles away.
Stephens lands with a good body shot.

Quade shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Stephens controlling the position for now.
Quade content to control rather than advance.

Stephens is trying to get back to full guard.

Quade trying to control the pace.
Quade not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Stephens has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Quade is working away from the top position though.
Stephens tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Quade has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Quade controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Quade prevents Stephens from getting the reversal.

Stephens is trying desperately to improve position.
Quade can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Stephens is looking to escape.
Stephens has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Stephens working to try and regain half guard.
Quade lands a big elbow.
Stephens tries to reverse the position but Quade maintains control.
Quade lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Quade unloading with bombs!

BOOM! Quade connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Stephens has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Quade's lack of action.
Quade trying to advance position but Stephens counters by regaining guard.
Quade working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Quade wants to pass the guard but Stephens is keeping the position.
Stephens controlling the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Quade trying to control the position from guard on top but Stephens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Quade controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Quade dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Stephens darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Stephens shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Quade sprawls well. Quade wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Stephens gets slowly back to his feet.

Steve Quade overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Stephens manages to work his way to half guard, despite Quade's best efforts.

Stephens is looking for a sweep. Quade is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Quade is looking to take a break and control but Stephens is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Quade is trying to work for a kimura but Stephens is defending well.
Stephens is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Stephens is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Quade pulls his head out easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Stephens is looking to control Quade's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stephens avoid being mounted?
Quade working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Quade controlling the action here.
Stephens is trying to stand up here but Quade is controlling him well.
Stephens keeping hold of Quade's head, controlling as best he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Stephens shoots in and drives through. Quade sprawls well.
Steve Quade has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Samuel Stephens.

Stephens closes the distance and clinches up with Quade, looking for a takedown. Stephens pushes Quade against the cage but Quade circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Stephens misses with a head kick.
Stephens takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Quade tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Stephens counters with a left to the body.
Stephens shoots in for a takedown but Quade shows good takedown defense.

Quade clinches up against the cage.
Stephens tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Quade effectively controlling the action here.

Quade decides to pull guard.

Quade is looking for a triangle but Stephens pushes his legs off easily.
Stephens postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Quade looking for a guillotine here but Stephens defends easily.
Stephens is fighting to break Quade's control of his arms but Quade is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Stephens controlling from the top position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Stephens gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Steve Quade.
I think Quade has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
