PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jason Dukes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jason Dukes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Robert Stone!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Peter Branson and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone throws out a leg kick but Dukes moves out of range and Stone only half commits.
Dukes shoots in for a takedown but Stone shows good takedown defense.
Stone has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Dukes is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Dukes shoots for a double leg takedown but Stone sprawls well. He's pushed Dukes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A slow jab from Stone misses its intended target.
Stone misses with a low kick as Dukes jumps back.

Stone throws a head kick that misses
and Dukes counters with a good, hard body kick but Stone shrugs it off.
Stone throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Dukes shoots in for a takedown but Stone shows good takedown defense.

Stone pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Dukes was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Stone cracks the inside of Dukes's front leg.
Dukes tries to clinch there but Stone circles away.

Dukes has a takedown stuffed.
Stone throws a front kick aimed at Dukes's knee but Dukes avoids it well.
As Stone looks to move away, Dukes throws a big counter combo but Stone just gets out of the way.
Stone cracks Dukes with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Stone thumps Dukes with a low kick.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Dukes checks a leg kick.
Stone throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Dukes takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Stone lands a leg kick that knocks Dukes off balance momentarily.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Stone, right into the meat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dukes moves in looking to clinch but Stone pushes him off.
Stone throws a big counter head kick but Dukes avoids it with no problem.

Dukes closes the distance and clinches.
Dukes is trying to maintain a safe position but Stone gets an underhook and turns Dukes into the cage.

Stone lands an elbow that stopped Dukes in his tracks for a moment.
Stone trying to land knees to the body.

Stone breaks the clinch.
Dukes looks to land a body kick but Stone moved away.
A little jabbing left from Stone on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Stone misses with a body shot.
Stone looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Dukes goes for a double leg but Stone avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Stone continues to drive forward.
Stone pivots, looking for a leg kick but Dukes is out of range and Stone settles back down.
Stone connects with a leg kick. Dukes looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Stone throws a front kick aimed at Dukes's knee but Dukes avoids it well.
A counter left hand to the body from Dukes misses its target.
Dukes tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Stone manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Dukes sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Stone loads up on a big right hand but Dukes slips the punch.

Stone keeps Dukes at a distance using the push kick.
Robert Stone is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dukes moves out of range of the body kick from Stone.
Stone slaps away a takedown attempt from Dukes, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Stone throws a half hearted mid kick.
Stone throws a leg kick but Dukes sees it coming and moves out of range.
Stone cracks the inside of Dukes's front leg.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dukes is looking to clinch but Stone is avoiding it.
Dukes shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stone but Stone pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Stone lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Stone is looking to slow Dukes down with leg kicks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stone is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Dukes is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Stone has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Dukes breaks from Stone's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Dukes connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Stone tries to reverse the position but Dukes maintains control.
Dukes postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Stone looks a forlorn figure.

Robert Stone is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Dukes shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Robert Stone comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Stone has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
