PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Clawnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruarc Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clawnes comes into the arena with My name is MUD blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thomas Clawnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ruarc Harris!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harris has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Clawnes finds it's way round the side to connect with Harris's head.


It looks like Ruarc Harris has been cut.
Harris ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Harris has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Harris moves into the clinch.
Harris blocking some punches.
Clawnes lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Harris backwards.
Harris has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Clawnes avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Harris lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Clawnes tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Harris's elbow.
Clawnes has a couple of punches blocked by Harris.
Clawnes prevents the takedown attempt.

Thomas Clawnes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ruarc Harris.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Clawnes.
Clawnes stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Clawnes stops a takedown attempt from Harris.

Harris turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
You can see the frustration on Clawnes's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Harris has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Harris avoids a punch combination nicely.
Harris changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Harris gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Clawnes is working Harris over against the cage.

Clawnes prevents the takedown attempt.
Clawnes is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Harris works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Harris stands up from Clawnes's guard - Harris perhaps looking for a knockout.
Harris tries to clinch up but Clawnes circles away and keeps his distance.
Harris tries to score a power double leg takedown but Clawnes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Harris somewhat.
Clawnes tries to counter by clinching up but Harris breaks away and moves out of range.

Clawnes throws a big counter combination but Harris scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Clawnes keeps the fight on the outside.
Harris is looking to clinch but Clawnes is avoiding it.
Harris closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Harris fails to land with a series of punches.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Clawnes creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Harris prevents a body shot from Clawnes.

Clawnes decides to pull guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Harris is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Harris decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Harris rushes Clawnes and presses him up against the cage.
Harris is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Clawnes is defending well.

Harris jumps guard.
Clawnes trying to control but Harris is working from the bottom.

Harris is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Thomas Clawnes will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Ruarc Harris's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Clawnes has picked Harris up - he's going for a ride! Clawnes dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Clawnes wants to take a breather but Harris is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clawnes scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Clawnes thows a huge punch but Harris dodges it nicely.

Clawnes is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Harris can do to turn this around?

Clawnes winds up and cracks Harris with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Clawnes is taking a breather. Harris says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Clawnes throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Harris looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Clawnes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Clawnes is looking to take a break and control but Harris is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Clawnes prevents Harris from standing back up.
Harris is doing well to control the position and prevent Clawnes from advancing to side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Harris tries to clinch there but Clawnes circles away.
Harris closes the distance but Clawnes moves to the side

and Clawnes counters with a nice right hand that sends Harris toppling to the canvas! Harris scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Clawnes finish him?!

Clawnes throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Harris seems to have recovered his senses.
Thomas Clawnes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Harris shoots in and drives through. Clawnes sprawls well.

Harris throws a series of punches but Clawnes avoids them all with ease.

Clawnes drops Harris with a beautiful combination! Harris stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Clawnes is looking for the KO!
Harris is aggressively charging in as Clawnes backs up avoiding any damage. Clawnes tosses out a jab and Harris runs right into it face first! Harris is out cold! Clawnes dropped down on all fours and is barking in Harris's face like a pit bull in celebration until the ref was finally able to pull him away!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Thomas Clawnes!
Thomas Clawnes very nearly forgot to thank Spartan Nutrition amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
In defeat, Ruarc Harris stepped up to the mic, saying 'I lost this match because i had a injured heart you see someone ran over my dog earlier today. If it where not for that i would have kicked this guys ass.'.
