PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Cornell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Super Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Matt Cornell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Super Carter!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter lands a right hook to the body.
Cornell throws a leg kick
and Carter counters with a left to the body.

Cornell clinches.
Carter is trying to break free.
Carter working hard to break the clinch.
Carter has had enough of the clinch but Cornell keeps him there for the moment.

Cornell wants the takedown. Carter is fighting it off but Cornell persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Carter's guard against the cage.

Carter has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Cornell has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Carter wants to break the clinch but can't.
Cornell has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Carter after a bit of a struggle.
Carter tries to break free but Cornell pushes him back against the cage.

Cornell has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Carter regains guard immediately.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Cornell is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Carter wants to stand but Cornell is controlling the position.

Cornell decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Cornell tries a head kick but it misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Cornell shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cornell showed some decent athleticism there.
Carter tries to kick Cornell off in order to stand up. Cornell Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Carter looks winded!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter wants to get back to his feet.
Carter trying to remain calm as Cornell controls from the top position.
Cornell tries to move to mount but Carter blocks the move with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cornell remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Carter is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Cornell has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Cornell staying calm.

Cornell is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Carter is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carter is trying to buck Cornell off.
Cornell throws a strike aimed at the side of Carter's head but Carter avoids it well.
Cornell controlling from side mount.
Carter is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Cornell has just dragged him back down to the mat.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cornell thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Cornell controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Cornell dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Carter digs a good hook to Cornell's body.
Carter throws a leg kick

and Cornell counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Cornell trying to control the pace.
Carter wants to get back to his feet.

Cornell is looking for a kimura here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cornell content to control rather than advance.

Carter is trying to stand back up but Cornell is controlling him
Carter is breathing heavily.

Cornell is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carter is just riding it out for now. Cornell eventually gives up the hold.
Carter tries to kick Cornell off but Cornell keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Cornell shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Carter manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Matt Cornell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cornell is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Cornell's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Cornell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Carter being controlled here, momentarily.
Cornell is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Carter can do to turn this around?
Cornell prevents Carter from getting back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Carter gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cornell to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Carter wants to stand up but Cornell is controlling him.
Cornell controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Carter wants to stand and escape but Cornell is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Cornell dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Cornell shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Carter as he jumps to the side.
Carter lands a slapping body shot.

Cornell shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Carter napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Carter is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cornell decides to stand up, so the ref orders Carter to his feet.

A low kick from Carter misses

and Cornell counters by moving into the clinch.

Cornell decides to pull guard.
Cornell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Carter is trying to stand up here but Cornell is controlling him well.
Still in half guard, Cornell seems content to control.

Carter is trying to stand up here but Cornell is controlling him well.
Cornell is controlling the pace.

Cornell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Cornell is working for a submission of some sort.
Cornell keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Cornell is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Carter is trying to stand up here but Cornell is controlling him well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Super Carter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Matt Cornell is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Cornell has managed to clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Carter working hard to break the clinch.
Carter is trying to push Cornell away but Cornell has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Cornell gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Carter regains guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Matt Cornell showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cornell, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
