Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shannon Bender (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alfred Kierkegaard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alfred Kierkegaard has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Shannon Bender!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alfred Kierkegaard!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bender gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Bender goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kierkegaard prevents it.

Bender is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kierkegaard is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Bender to the mat. Bender regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Bender escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kierkegaard gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kierkegaard controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Kierkegaard drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kierkegaard jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bender really is a fat lump.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bender has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kierkegaard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Bender is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kierkegaard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bender swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bender knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kierkegaard on the ground.
Kierkegaard controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bender enables Kierkegaard to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bender manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Kierkegaard tries to free his leg and advance position but Bender is retaining full guard.
Bender trying to keep a closed guard but Kierkegaard is proving a slippery customer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Let's hope that Kierkegaard has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bender doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Kierkegaard moves into the clinch.

Kierkegaard lands a takedown into guard.
Bender is wriggling around but Kierkegaard manages to pass to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Bender is trying to maintain the position but Kierkegaard is very close to passing his half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kierkegaard is controlling the pace.

Kierkegaard wants to work for an arm triangle but Bender is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!



Bender closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bender lands in his opponent's guard.

Kierkegaard manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Bender is trying to pull guard but Kierkegaard turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
We've been informed that Kierkegaard has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bender trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kierkegaard's guard.
Kierkegaard pulls Bender in to control the position.

Bender wants to stand and escape but instead Kierkegaard has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


Bender escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kierkegaard gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kierkegaard slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kierkegaard has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kierkegaard is continuing to stall.
Bender might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kierkegaard stands and throws Bender's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Bender being controlled for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bender throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Kierkegaard throws out a loose jab but Bender uses good head movement to avoid it.
Bender throws a big counter combination but Kierkegaard scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kierkegaard. Bender does a little dance to reset his feet.
Bender was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kierkegaard.
A lull in the action here as Kierkegaard stalls from top position.
A control attempt from Bender but he's now mounted!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kierkegaard content just to control the position here.
The adventures of Kierkegaard the control monster continue. Boring.
Bender is controlling an arm, preventing Kierkegaard from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Kierkegaard controlling his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bender wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Kierkegaard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alfred Kierkegaard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Kierkegaard looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Bender wants to control but Kierkegaard is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bender wants to get back to full guard.

Still in half guard, Kierkegaard seems content to control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bender flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Kierkegaard keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kierkegaard feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kierkegaard passes Bender's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kierkegaard passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bender!

Bender is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Kierkegaard takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Good control from Kierkegaard.

Kierkegaard is working for a rear naked choke. Bender is not defending it well and Kierkegaard has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Bender refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Bender's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Alfred Kierkegaard!
