PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ellsworth Petersen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Df Df (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ellsworth Petersen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Df Df!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Donatello Bradman and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Df stuffs the takedown.

Petersen feints and as Df raises his hands in defense, Petersen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Petersen postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Df striking off his back but it's not causing Petersen any problems.
Petersen throws a big elbow that misses.
Petersen being controlled here momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Petersen throwing strikes but missing.
Petersen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Petersen won't allow Df to sweep him here.
Df is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Petersen drops back looking for a leg! Df is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Df manages to kick Petersen off! Petersen jumps back into Df's guard.
Df wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A head kick misses from Df.
Petersen tries to counter with a takedown but Df is quick to defend against it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Df is defended easily by Petersen.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Df keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Petersen defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Df.
Df fails with a takedown attempt.
Ellsworth Petersen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Df Df.

Df clinches up against the cage.
Df controlling the action here for a moment.
A head punch on the inside from Petersen fails to land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Df is looking for a takedown.
A frustrated look appears on Df's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Df is trying to pull guard but Petersen turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Petersen is looking to take this one to the mat.
Df tries to stall but Petersen uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Petersen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Df avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Df tries to pull guard but Petersen won't allow it.

Petersen decides to pull guard.
Petersen will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Petersen thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Petersen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Petersen prevents Df from improving his position.
Df controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Petersen throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Df to regain full guard.
Df really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Petersen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Df escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Petersen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Df is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Petersen is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ellsworth Petersen dominated that round.
That's time! Petersen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Petersen shoots in and drives through. Df sprawls well.

Df forces Petersen back against the cage and clinches.
Petersen has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Df is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A head punch on the inside from Df fails to land.
Df is trying to force a seperation but Petersen has the dominant position.
Df is trying to drag Petersen to the mat but Petersen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Petersen tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Df tries to pull guard but Petersen holds him up against the cage and eventually Df drops back down to his feet.
Df is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Petersen tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Df is trying to break the clinch but Petersen is controlling him.
Df jumps guard but Petersen stands there with Df around his waist. Df gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ellsworth Petersen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Df Df.
Petersen goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Df fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Df is trying to break the clinch but Petersen is controlling him.
Petersen is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Df can do to turn this around?
Petersen missing with knees to the body.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Df takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Df just leaning against Petersen, taking a breather.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Petersen tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Df wants to break the clinch but can't.
Df stops a takedown attempt from Petersen.
Df goes for a takedown attempt but Petersen pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Df displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Petersen.
Petersen defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Df.
Petersen half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Df tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Petersen swivels and escapes.
Df is breathing heavily.
Df swinging wildly here.

Petersen dives in and scores a takedown into Df's guard.
Df looking to control.
Petersen throws a strike but Df rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Petersen working for a triangle but Df defends it easily.
Df must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Petersen throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Petersen is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Df presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Petersen manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Petersen breaks the clinch.
Df rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Petersen moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Df tries for a takedown but Petersen circles away easily
enabling Petersen to counter with a crisp jab.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Petersen swats away the attempt to clinch by Df.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Petersen fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Df to the ground. Petersen is now in Df's guard.
Petersen is standing up over Df. Df looks to escape but Petersen dives into side control.

Df is trying to control Petersen's posture but Petersen avoids it.
Df is trying to get back to half guard.
Petersen working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Df controls the position for a moment.
Petersen scoring with punches from side control.

Petersen trying to control the position but Df is working away.
Petersen postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Petersen decides to stand back up.
Petersen with a poor takedown
and Df counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Petersen wants to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Df looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Petersen is fending him off so far but Df persists. Nope, Petersen circles away and we're back to standing.
Df throws a right hand that Petersen ducks under and follows up with a left that Petersen also avoids with ease.
Df takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
A left and a right from Df both land. Nice combination.

Petersen gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Petersen tries a knee to the head but Df blocks it.
Petersen is trying to drag Df to the mat but Df just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Petersen tries to pull guard but Df won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ellsworth Petersen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Df tries a body shot but Petersen blocks it.
Df leaning against his opponent.

Petersen has picked Df up - he's going for a ride! Petersen dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Df is looking to get back to is feet but Petersen passes into side control.
Df tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Petersen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Petersen sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Df is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Df sneaks out the side door and pushes Petersen away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Petersen misses with a takedown attempt - Df sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Df moves in looking to clinch but Petersen pushes him off.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Petersen avoids the head kick by Df.
Petersen appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Df Df seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Petersen leaves Df with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Petersen seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Df has closed the distance and engaged Petersen in a clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Df lands a left hand.
Df is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Df Df has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ellsworth Petersen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Df tries to break the clinch but Petersen is controlling the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Df Df.
I think Petersen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
