Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zeus Leonidas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitaly Karelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zeus Leonidas!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Vitaly Karelin!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leonidas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Karelin pinned against the cage. Karelin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Leonidas throws a body punch but Karelin moves out of range.
Leonidas just misses with a punch to the body.
Karelin walks forward, straight into a front kick from Leonidas.

and Karelin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Leonidas's guard.
Leonidas controls Karelin momentarily but Karelin frees himself.
Karelin lands a couple of decent looking shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Leonidas is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Karelin is aware though and is defending well.
Leonidas controls Karelin momentarily but Karelin frees himself.

Leonidas seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Karelin wants to control from the top but Leonidas keeps moving.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Karelin working his ground and pound in the gym.

Karelin takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Leonidas is trying to control but can't.

Karelin keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Leonidas's head.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Karelin is working Leonidas over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Karelin distracts Leonidas with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Leonidas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Karelin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Karelin stands up over Leonidas, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Leonidas pulls Karelin in close to prevent any damage.
Karelin cracks Leonidas with a solid left hand.

Leonidas is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Karelin defends well.

It looks like Zeus Leonidas has been cut.

Leonidas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Karelin content to stall in guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Leonidas looks to score with a jab to the body but Karelin is just out of range.

Karelin throws a big shot that misses.

Karelin ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Leonidas is looking to wear down Karelin with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Leonidas throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Karelin lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Leonidas misses with a few strikes there.

A looping hook to the body misses from Karelin. Leonidas does a little dance to reset his feet.
Karelin bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Leonidas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Karelin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Karelin jabs Leonidas to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Karelin comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Karelin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Leonidas manages to avoid it.

Karelin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Leonidas shoots in for a takedown but Karelin shows good takedown defense.

Karelin is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Leonidas with a body shot.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Karelin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Leonidas's waist but Leonidas gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Karelin off to one side.
Zeus Leonidas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Karelin paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Leonidas swings for the body but Karelin moves out of range.

Karelin's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Leonidas connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Karelin scrambles back to his feet.

It looks like Vitaly Karelin has been cut.

Zeus Leonidas is winning the standup battle so far.
Karelin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Karelin digs a good body shot into Leonidas's ribs.
Leonidas uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Karelin.

and Karelin counters with a single leg into guard. Leonidas didn't expect that.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Leonidas is on top in guard.

Leonidas tries to free his leg and advance position but Karelin is retaining full guard.
Karelin is pulling down on Leonidas's head. It's preventing any offense from Leonidas, at least for the moment.
Leonidas looking to sit in guard and control but Karelin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Karelin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Leonidas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Karelin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Karelin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Karelin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Karelin is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Karelin arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Leonidas's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Vitaly Karelin!
