Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Granville Ballard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kenneth Francis!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Francis dives in and scores a takedown into Ballard's guard.
Ballard not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ballard trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Francis chips away with some ground and pound.
Ballard wants to sweep here but Francis controlling him for the moment.
Francis cracks Ballard with a solid left hand.
Francis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Ballard has his foot on Francis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Francis works his way back into a safe position though.
Francis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Ballard is trying to keep Francis in close.
Francis trying to control the position from guard on top but Ballard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Francis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ballard gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Francis is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ballard wants to get up but he can't break Francis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Ballard wants to control from the top but Francis keeps moving.

Francis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ballard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Ballard gets caught flat footed, as Francis shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Francis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ballard swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ballard wants to sweep here but Francis controlling him for the moment.
Ballard controls Francis momentarily but Francis frees himself.
Francis slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Ballard throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Francis pushes down on Ballard's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Ballard is trying to control but can't.

Francis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ballard tries to clinch but Francis is having none of it.

Francis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ballard did well to prevent Francis getting side control.

Francis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Francis frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Francis connects with a nice short shot to Ballard's temple.

Ballard gets to his feet - Francis follows without any prompting.

Ballard is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Francis gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Francis has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Ballard is trying to keep an underhook but Francis manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Ballard is looking to improve his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Francis drops an elbow to the side of Ballard's head.
Francis winds up and cracks Ballard with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Francis is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Kenneth Francis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ballard's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Francis lands a strong strike to the head of Ballard. That's dazed him! Francis looking to finish here. Ballard is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Francis lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
