Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Granville Ballard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Granville Ballard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Cage!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cage fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ballard sprawls well initially but Cage persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Cage throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ballard might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Cage looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ballard with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Cage seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Cage trying to mount his opponent but Ballard defends it.
Ballard wants to improve his position but Cage is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cage thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ballard's head.
Ballard is looking to control Cage's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ballard avoid being mounted?
Cage is trying to control the action in half guard but Ballard is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ballard wants to control but Cage is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cage lands a nice short elbow.
Cage is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Cage tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ballard knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Ballard wants to control but Cage passes into side.
Cage wants to control but Ballard is keeping him busy.
Ballard tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cage wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Cage wants to stand but Ballard has his arm trapped.
Ballard can't do much from the bottom here.
Ballard is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Cage's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ballard slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Cage trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Ballard wants to sweep but no luck.
Cage must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Cage closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Ballard's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Cage pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Cage has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Ballard clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
What can Ballard do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Ballard is working hard here to advance position.
Ballard looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Cage has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Ballard's body.
Ballard just trying to survive but Cage is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

That's time! Ballard's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Ballard connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Ballard looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Cage puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Cage wants to pass to mount but Ballard is defending the position.

Cage is keen to just control but Ballard is a slippery customer.
Ballard has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cage is working away from the top position though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Cage is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Ballard has managed to free his arm - good work.

Cage is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Ballard is refusing to be controlled, as Cage sits in half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Cage seems to be looking for submissions.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ballard moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

James Cage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Cage shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ballard manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Cage is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Ballard working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Cage's head.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ballard accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cage bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ballard's guard.

Ballard is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cage distracts Ballard with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Cage got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ballard has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cage has managed to get both his arms back between Ballard's legs - danger averted.

Cage seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Cage has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ballard has his foot on Cage's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cage works his way back into a safe position though.

Ballard was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Granville Ballard has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
James Cage is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Cage tried to score with a low kick but Ballard checks it.

James Cage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Cage winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
