Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ellsworth Petersen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ellsworth Petersen has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ellsworth Petersen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Billy King!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, John Mangel and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

King changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Petersen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Petersen wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
King really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Petersen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

King tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no King has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Petersen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Petersen is not content to let King control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Petersen is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Petersen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Petersen throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Petersen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King tries to pass the half guard into mount. Petersen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

King blocks the strikes from Petersen.

King stands up and beckons Petersen to join him on the feet.
King shoots in but Petersen avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Petersen tries to counter with a takedown but King is quick to defend against it.
King is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
King lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by King.


It looks like Ellsworth Petersen has been cut.
King throws a lazy head kick

and Petersen counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

King pushes Petersen off and gets back to his feet.
Billy King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nice sprawl there from King as Petersen shoots in.
Petersen moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromKing.
Petersen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

King gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Petersen to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Petersen postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
King controls Petersen momentarily but Petersen frees himself.
King bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Petersen's guard.

King content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Petersen looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but King puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

King is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Petersen wants to control but King is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Petersen wants to get back to his feet.
Petersen wants to control the action here but instead King manages to pass to full mount!
Petersen gets back to half guard.

Petersen makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
King misses with a low kick.
King looks winded!
Petersen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
King throws a counter combo.

King swats away the attempt to clinch by Petersen.
King is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
King throws a head kick but Petersen moves out of range.
King shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Petersen pinned against the cage. Petersen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
King fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Petersen avoids it really well and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Petersen defends it nicely.

King seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Petersen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee asks King politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. King prefers to stall for the moment though.

Ellsworth Petersen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy King.
King keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Petersen decides to stand back up. Petersen steps back and let's King get back to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Petersen or perhaps it was just good defense by King, which made it look bad.

King tries to close the distance and clinch but Petersen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Billy King seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Petersen instigates a clinch.
King drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Petersen gets the underhooks and prevents it.
King is looking to take this one to the mat.

Petersen has King pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. King manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Petersen lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

King jumps guard but Petersen stands there with King around his waist. King gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Petersen tries to work over King's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Petersen tries to score a body lock takedown but King shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
King is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Ellsworth Petersen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Billy King is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
King is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Petersen pulls him back up using the underhooks.

And that's the end of the fight!

I think King has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
