PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Karate Kid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Boe Hogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kid's entrance music is Kung Fu Fighting. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hogan jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Horrible takedown attempt by Hogan or perhaps it was just good defense by Kid, which made it look bad.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kid throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Karate Kid has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Boe Hogan.

Kid lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Hogan gets caught napping as Kid dives in and scores a takedown. Hogan manages to retain guard.

Kid is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hogan defends it well.
Hogan is trying to maintain the position but Kid is very close to passing his half guard.
Kid wants to pass to mount but Hogan is defending the position.

Hogan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kid is working for a guillotine from mount but Hogan frees his head quite easily.

Kid jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Hogan is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Hogan and Kid has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Kid wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hogan, who protects the arm well.

Kid swings around for an armbar but Hogan sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kid's guard.

Kid's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Hogan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kid swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hogan looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Kid throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Hogan just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromKid.

Kid darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Kid tries to advance position but instead Hogan slips a leg back in to half guard.
Kid is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hogan can do to turn this around?
Hogan won't allow Kid to pass to mount.

Kid wants to take a breather but Hogan is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Kid is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Hogan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kid's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kid's back!

Kid is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Hogan gets his way!

Karate Kid overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hogan is persistently looking for the submission but Kid is defending it well.
Hogan gets his hands free as Kid looks to control.
Kid is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
