PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rob Bobbins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Namaka Kaeo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Kaeo's choice of entrance music: Survival by Eminem. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Namaka Kaeo was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rob Bobbins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Namaka Kaeo!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Daniel Franklin and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bobbins drives through and clinches with Kaeo against the cage.
Kaeo looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Bobbins is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Kaeo is defending well.
Kaeo looking to slow down the pace here.

Bobbins manages to pull guard.
Kaeo being controlled here momentarily.
Kaeo won't allow Bobbins to sweep him here.
Bobbins throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bobbins manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kaeo manages to get himself to full guard.

Kaeo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bobbins. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bobbins wants to pass the guard but Kaeo is defending well.
Kaeo looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bobbins moves in looking to clinch but Kaeo pushes him off.

Bobbins has Kaeo up against the cage in a clinch.
Kaeo wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Bobbins crunches a lovely knee into Kaeo's ribcage.
Bobbins drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kaeo pulls his leg out and moves away.
Bobbins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kaeo is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kaeo's coach down at Cozad The Island was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Kaeo's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Kaeo sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Kaeo is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Bobbins lands a front kick.
Sloppy strikes from Bobbins. Those never looked like landing.
Bobbins uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kaeo.
Bobbins tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kaeo swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rob Bobbins. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kaeo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kaeo wants it to stay on the feet.

Bobbins has Kaeo up against the cage in a clinch.

Bobbins is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kaeo to keep the fight standing.
Kaeo should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Bobbins has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kaeo is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Bobbins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kaeo throws a body shot but no joy.
Bobbins shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kaeo as he jumps to the side.
Horrible takedown attempt by Bobbins or perhaps it was just good defense by Kaeo, which made it look bad.
Bobbins moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromKaeo.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kaeo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
As Kaeo backs away, Bobbins returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Bobbins shoots in looking for a takedown but Kaeo manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bobbins's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobbins shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kaeo defends it nicely.

Still in the clinch, Bobbins scores with a nice short uppercut.

Bobbins manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Bobbins is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kaeo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Bobbins is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kaeo defends well.

Bobbins has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Kaeo is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Bobbins has his foot on Kaeo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kaeo works his way back into a safe position though.

Bobbins is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kaeo is aware though and is defending well.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Kaeo works over Bobbins with some ground and pound from guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bobbins bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kaeo's guard.

Bobbins throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kaeo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kaeo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bobbins doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bobbins manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Kaeo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bobbins looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kaeo decides to pull guard.

Kaeo is working an open guard so Bobbins takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Bobbins throws a series of punches but Kaeo avoids them all with ease.

Rob Bobbins is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bobbins looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Bobbins shoots in looking for a takedown. Kaeo tries to sprawl out of it but Bobbins keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kaeo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Bobbins closes the distance and clinches up with Kaeo, looking for a takedown. Bobbins pushes Kaeo against the cage but Kaeo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Bobbins changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kaeo tries to avoid it but Bobbins manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kaeo to the ground. Kaeo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kaeo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bobbins.
Bobbins shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kaeo defends it nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kaeo dives in for a single leg takedown but Bobbins sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Namaka Kaeo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rob Bobbins is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Bobbins has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
