3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Matthes!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Hirohito Nitta and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grena is looking to clinch but Matthes is avoiding it.
Matthes feints the counter takedown.
Grena throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
It looks like Mike Matthes has been cut.
Matthes avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Matthes drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Grena defends it well.
Matthes defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Grena.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Matthes drops back, looking for a kneebar! Grena looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Grena looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Grena!
Grena swings around for an armbar but Matthes sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Grena's guard.
Matthes is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Grena is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Grena has escaped and now he's on top!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Grena is working Matthes over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

That was a close round but I would say that Umberto Grena will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Matthes has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Matthes throws some wild stikes that Grena manages to avoid easily.
Matthes moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Grena has worked his arm free - good work by Grena!

Matthes goes for a double leg but Grena avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Grena continues to drive forward.
Grena is trying hard to land a takedown here. Matthes sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Grena or perhaps it was just good defense by Matthes, which made it look bad.
Grena throws a body punch but Matthes moves out of range.
Matthes shoots for a double leg takedown but Grena sprawls well. He's pushed Matthes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Umberto Grena has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Matthes.
