The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pate shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Martell pinned against the cage. Martell gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Pate shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Martell throws a head kick but Pate moves out of range.
Pate changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Martell tries to avoid it but Pate manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Martell to the ground. Martell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Martell remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Clovis Martell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Martell tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Martell shoots in and gets a takedown into Pate's guard.

Pate will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Pate is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Martell defends well.
