Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Darren Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Onni Koski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Darren Russell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Onni Koski!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Chris Edwards and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russell throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Koski's coach down at Kung Fu Fighting Club ($299 entry fee) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Koski's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Darren Russell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Russell ducks under a wild hook from Koski.
Russell shoots in for a double leg but Koski sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Russell shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Koski lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Russell tries to score a power double leg takedown but Koski sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Russell somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darren Russell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Koski throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Russell shoots in but Koski avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Russell misses with a body shot.
And Koski tries to counter it with a takedown but Russell pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Russell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Koski slaps away a takedown attempt from Russell, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Koski changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Russell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Koski pinned against the cage. Koski gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Russell is breathing heavily.

and Koski counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Koski is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.


It looks like Darren Russell has been cut.

Russell is looking to control Koski's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Russell avoid being mounted?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Koski seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Russell has hold of Koski's hands but Koski slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Oh Russell is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Koski lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Russell quite badly. Russell pulls Koski in close trying to recover. Koski postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Russell on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Russell doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Onni Koski!
Onni Koski took to the microphone after his victory and thanked his sponsors, King of Clothes for their support in the buildup to the fight.
