PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Rekis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Monsun Moon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rekis comes to the cage accompanied by AC/DC - Thunderstruck. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Rekis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Monsun Moon!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rekis.

Moon dives in and scores a takedown into Rekis's guard.
Rekis working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Moon.
Rekis is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Moon looking to sit in guard and control but Rekis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Moon preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Rekis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rekis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Rekis trying to control but Moon is working from the bottom.
Moon has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Moon told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Rekis trying to control the position from guard on top but Moon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rekis is really struggling to control Moon but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rekis wants to stand but Moon has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Moon trying to keep a closed guard but Rekis is proving a slippery customer.
Moon pulls Rekis in close to prevent any damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Moon looking for a guillotine here but Rekis defends easily.
Moon seems keen to control Rekis's posture.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rekis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Moon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Moon is thwarting Rekis's attempts to control the position.
Rekis keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Moon lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Moon is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Moon seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rekis tries to roll over but Moon keeps him under control.
Rekis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Moon is working away from the top position though.
Moon prevents Rekis from standing back up.

Moon not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Moon is thwarting Rekis's attempts to control the position.
Moon wants to pass the guard but Rekis is defending well.
Moon prevents Rekis from improving his position.

Moon is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rekis doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Moon.
Rekis is looking to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Monsun Moon dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rekis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Moon cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Rekis on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
John Rekis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rekis with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Moon to score with a decent uppercut.
Rekis looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Rekis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Moon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Moon manages to get back to half guard.
Moon controlling the position for now.
Rekis takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Rekis is thwarting Moon's attempts to control the position.
Rekis looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Moon with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Moon is not content to let Rekis control the position.

Rekis lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Rekis is nestled in close to Moon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Rekis is trying to control. Moon wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Moon wants to improve his position but Rekis is controlling well.
Rekis wants to take a breather but Moon is having none of it.
Moon makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Moon.

Rekis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Moon swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Moon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Rekis with a flurry of punches that miss.
Moon avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Rekis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Rekis chips away with some ground and pound.
Rekis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Moon has his foot on Rekis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rekis works his way back into a safe position though.

Rekis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Moon controls Rekis momentarily but Rekis frees himself.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Rekis shoots in but Moon avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Moon tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Rekis walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Moon shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Moon is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rekis is refusing to be controlled, as Moon sits in half guard.
Rekis works his way to full guard. Good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Monsun Moon will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Rekis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Moon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rekis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Monsun Moon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Moon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Monsun Moon very nearly forgot to thank Sun-Tzu amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
